Even if it's a SIMPLE edit, I do it, no questions asked. ESPECIALLY on refs. The person paid me to do it, I'm gonna do it! And hey, if it DOES elicit an additional fee if it's complex, I do ask it. I make sure I am through in what I am doing though to prevent this stuff. I'm happy when my client is!
As an artist who does comms myself, I fucking HATE these people. I have been given the short end of the stick SO many times as a commissioner of art, and know what NOT to do on my own business.
When someone commissions you, it's a *transaction* that is to be fulfilled. No more, no less.
How to lose a commissioners interest in an art piece
Artist: "here is a WIP so far, let me know of want any adjustments"
Commissioner: *suggests what they feel like is small edit adjustment*
Artist: "sorry but im not going to adjust it and will stay as is"

I have gone to this dentist before for one a bit back, and they did an amazing job, to the point I didn't need to take any of the pain meds they prescribed me.
