A rather old school CG render from a game. This is from the days when everything was always perfectly smooth, the background is comparatively detailed however
A green haired fairy with halfway translucent butterfly wings is hovering in front of the camera. Her eyes are purple and match her clothes.

The image only scene only takes up about half the screen with the rest being obscured by a stone frame with a scroll that reads
"
歌の内容
月の明りは母の愛
みんなを優しく照らすのよ
"
each line of her song is surrounded by music notes Another screenshot from a CG game. The general style of the render is similar to the previous image although this one has less of a fantasy bent.
a close up shot of a make up table, with one of those bulb framed mirrors you always see back of house, taken from only 20 or so cm above the tables surface. The camera is angled down towards the table so it's surface fills the screen.

There is a limp arm lying on the table reaching for red lipstick that has been knocked over and is lying in the middle of the space. in the edge of the frame you can see someones head slumped against the surface of the table. The angle of the arm implies it belongs to the owner of the head.

The thing we actually care about is the butterfly in the center of frame. Its wings appear to be the exact same model that was used for the faeries wings in the previous picture. Although this time not transparent

Okay so looking at the fairy while typing up alt texts yesterday had me thinking she was familiar, and she is!

It seems her wings are the butterfly asset from Idea Factory's earlier Steelwood Privite Eye with the transparency turned down.

Cool stuff, we love asset re-use

A CG tiling water background that looks kind of like the pattern made by sunlight refracting through the surface of a pool onto the tiles that line it's bottom. In front of it is a large red gem (it looks kind of like one of the all boxes crystals from hit game crash bandicoot, or more accurately one of the colour ones from the no death challenges (more specifically the red one from Slippery Climb) it also looks like a red gem in a stereotypical diamond cut if you wanna be boring)

Below it text reads "レッド ソウル ストーン 人々の奪われし魂 その光は 美しく も哀しい" The image shows some stairs descending into the darkness. The walls are the same as always and the stair texture matches the hallway floor from earlier. Strangely the perspective for this shot is from a person standing on one side of a staircase looking diagonally about 45 degrees to the opposite wall. I can only assume they are descending the staircase by walking diagonally, strange.

The scroll text reads "君は自分が誰で、何をしていたかさえもおもいだせない。(ゆっくりと階段を下る)"

Anyway if you made it this far I guess I should explain the actual premise of the game

It's a dungeon crawler choose your own adventure type beat where you play as a knight who has lost his memories and is looking for the red soul stone from the logo

lots of fun you should play it.

The image is of a galaxy in the distance surrounded by large stars. They actually look more like floating white planets or motes of dust but I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be stars. It has a very desolate and lonely feeling

The scroll text reads "...どこからか声が聞こえる。"

Things actually get kind of weird and way more narratively ambitious then they needed to be in the back half.

Good thing too, the limitations of the PhotoCD format made it impossible to make an expansive dungeon crawl, but getting weird with it definitely made the second half a lot of fun

The fairy from the previous posts is sitting on top of the chest that contains the money men but it is closed. The scrolls read
"1.宝箱の方へ近づく"
”2.部屋を出る”

Here's the fairy again in my favorite screen from the game. I have a deep love of kinda jank CG stuff, and this treasure chest with the overly reflective gold accenting combined with the floor and wall textures is just too good for this world

A close up of the middle coin man from the previous posts image. their two friends are each half visible on either side of them. The text on the scroll reads:
"「ワンワン、あのですねッ、いい情報があるんですよ。ドアベアーは語らい合うといいらしですよ。お金くださいワンワン」" The fairy from the previous posts image is now hovering out in a hallway. The walls are the same as all the other images but the flooring is instead a rough stone path like the floor of a cave.

She's hovering at what feels like somewhere between the players chest and head height but this image is from a first person perspective so it is hard to say.

As always the frame takes up about half the screen and there is a scroll. This time it reads:
"!!なんと君の目の前に透明な羽をもった5cm位の少女が現れた。なんて美しい歌声なんだろう!"

Fun fact the money men are a one always lies one always tells the truth type deal but there's three of them
I'm unclear on how many we're lying to me

Bonus fun fact the the fairy who introduces them can actually be found earlier in the game, which I did not know until going through the game files

Getting images of this game that weren't weirdly dark turned into a whole thing but here's some gameplay screenshots.

My beloved door bear actually ended up accounting for about 2 hours of game time in what should have been a 1 and a half hour game because I cannot solve Japanese language riddles

Just think about door bear, he's waiting for you. It'll be okay

Also there will be gameplay progress today, as through the power of my immense intellect, I managed to figure out what I'm supposed to even do with this guy (just tried literately every order of actions for about an hour or so until it worked)

A screen shot of an old PC video game

most of the screen is taken up by a UI frame where small scrolls holding the available actions in any given scene would normally sit.

Inside the frame the current scene shows a dark door frame with big catlike eyes, along with a small cats nose, and a large cheshire grin. The doors face is large and takes up the majority of it's surface. The sides of the door, near the corners of the grin, even have to bulge out to fit it all in. The doors smile only has an upper row of teeth and they are pointed and sharp like a carnivore's. The game insists this is a door bear, but I cannot stress how much this looks like a cat's face. It's only missing the ears

under the scene, in the UI frame, there is a scroll which reads as follows: ドアはモンスタードアベアだった!

A Stream Today?

two hands tie noose in front of you, while the glare of a spotlight obscures or is his face.
"tell me, did you wear your mothers dresses as a child?"

My favourite character is probably the rat(?) from the (true?) end. But that wasn't a portrait so much as a CG, so can I put forward my least favourite instead?

This guy awakened trauma I didn't even know I had. Like yeah it was super messed up when a doctor asked me that.

For those curious Kodak arrange-it is to PortfolioCD what Kodak build-it is to PhotoCD

For those still curious it seems to be the stock tool provided by Kodak to allow the general public to make PortfolioCDs

I wonder if this is how Idea Factory made all those weird PhotoCD games I love so much?

A screenshot of a very small Windows95 screen.

Center a large about screen declares this is version one of Kodak Arrange-it. The logo looks kind of like some 36mm negatives arranged into a hash sign but it isn't because there are one two many left to right lines.

Behind this window a blank collection and document can be seen. The help guide is very unhelpful so I have no idea what either of those words mean in this context but the Collection is a grey sub-window on the top half of the screen and the document is a white sub-window on the bottom half of the screen

many fun looking greyed out buttons can be seen in the toolbar above the collection window. Maybe when I figure out how to import some images I will be allowed to use them

The system clock shows the time as 1:18AM. Please ignore that.

I've managed to get my hands on a copy of Kodak arrange-it for Windows95/NT so now I can make all the PhotoCD based games I want. Life is strange Episode one port coming as soon as I can figure out how this programme works

The game in question was TR-49 by the way. It's probably my favorite database indexing game even beating out The Roottrees are dead. TR-49 was easier but it has a bit more to say and you can kind of hold the whole thing in your head which makes hitting the library science zen state way easier

A YouTube ad in a mobile aspect ratio.

A man wearing a grey suit and red tie is green screened in front of what looks to be a stock clipart of a marti glass.

He is singing although that's something I know from having seen the ad myself. it's not in the photo much.

The captions read: "So many voices, like hearing voices"

I cannot put in to words how insane I feel. No one else I talk to is getting these ads

Was going to post about how I beat my first game of the year but I keep getting this ad and I keep asking my friends but no one knows what I'm on about.

Who is this man?
What does he want me to buy?
Am I finally getting the old "some guy wants to promote their channel" ads again?
Is it just me?

The photo shows a 9 han hand, the main reason I was excited is that it's my first ever full flush, and I called ron on the last tile in the game. Please ignore the small child shes the most clothed character I have available. Also I am not good at this game so this hand is a big deal. Yes I did loose the rest of the game horrifically, thanks for asking. The man menu screen for dark chaser. Crossed swords and a large red gem hover above a wonderfully 90's tiling water graphic. The games title is shown in a very word art golden font. The copyright marks it as being a 1995 game by idea factory, of which there were several.

As is tradition my everything is broken so stream will be starting a little bit late...

Also I may gave gotten distracted playing Riichi City before this whoops. Got my highest ever scoring hand though so I will learn nothing from this

Please be excited for DARK CHASER

Before, any pixel matched with more than one pixel would get added to the depthmap repeatedly. hence the snow. Now we only add if a square (2x2 here) matches within a single layer.

to avoid loosing detail we also allow individual pixels that would be next to an already drawn one on the same layer

I had a vivid dream last night in which I experienced a full relationship from meeting my partner to my death. As a B plot in that dream I figured out how to fix the snow in the MagicEye visualiser.

I managed to recall that fix after waking, boring explanation of the fix in replies.

I'm just considering pixels not patterns. So for example, if there are any red pixels between a red pixel and it's true repeat we get a false positive. The game uses a limited palette here so there are a lot of false positives. we loose some details to compression(?) messing up the exact colours too

My understanding is that these MagicEyes use a repeated pattern. So the dots that makes up the lips appear twice. Find the distance between the two and that's the depth.

you can shift a copy of the image over itself slowly and add to the depth map every time two identical pixels overlap

I magic eye style puzzle from a 1991 Idea Factory game called Steelwood Detective Agency. The puzzle is a blur of pink, red, and black dots on a blue to black gradiant background. in the there is text that reads The Previous Pictures Clue / 前ページのヒント. Doing a Magic Eye Puzzle on a 90's PC screen seems pretty rough but someone on the dev team could clearly do it This is the solution to the Magic Eye puzzle. A greyscale depth map of a pair of lips putting on some lipstick. There are some concentric rings in the background to add depth. The entire image is very snowy, like you're looking at it through a bad TV signal.

In my Game of the Year 2025(1995), Steelwood Detective Agency, all the hints are MagicEye thingies

I cannot do these at all so I made a programme for it. Luckily it turns out they really are just hints and you can skip them

excuses for why it looks like that in replies

I'm out with some friends and it's been mentioned to me that strange simplified mahjong variants are like an established thing.

Here's a doraemon mahjong set I managed to find on mercari that looks a bit like the one in our game

I should look into this more when I'm not drinking
