My point exactly: I refuse to believe that we have to accept this as the price of free speech online. Sorry.
People can understand Section 230, and truly prize the first amendment, as I do, and still think Section 230 should be revisited.
I've also gone to the Heritage Foundation to interview them about their position on Section 230 and I don't agree with it. They want to weaken c(2) (which is just straight up first amendment protections) and treat platforms like common carriers. I'm not parroting Heritage talking points.
"This Brian Reed guy?" Taylor, we've done an interview together and I've said I want to talk about Section 230 with you. We should do it, I'll email you about a Substack live or something. I'm not pro SESTA/FOSTA, as my reporting on it shows...
Got to dig into Section 230 and all it has wrought with @techdirt.com's @masnick.com -- who has a lot of bones to pick with me on the issue -- live on The Majority Report with @samseder.bsky.social and @emmavigeland.bsky.social Fun and wonky and substantive

Ok so Industry is a Ghislaine Maxwell biopic...
This isn't solely about ideology. It's about succumbing to leverage and jawboning from the executive branch.
Not sure it’s a clear comparison. The acquirer of Fox was not a family of avowed Trump supporters and donors who, that we know of, had met with him and discussed content decisions. It also was not a time when the government was being weaponized so clearly against speech.
I’m telling you, this is stage 4 of media capture.
(The four stages:
1. Weaponize the regulator ✅
2. Leverage public money ✅
3. Weaken public media ✅
4. Have rich oligarch friends buy up private media ☑️)
Put concerns about the news orgs aside. Genuine question: Do you think Warner Brothers under the Ellisons makes either Sinners or One Battle After Another (as we know them)? Imagine Trump or Vance starts whining about all these “antifa-DEI” movies or something…
I just saw Newsmax report on the tv in the back of my NYC taxi that the president is drafting an executive order to take federal control of elections. They said it matter of fact, but this is both terrifying and unconstitutional. The president cannot be trusted with elections.
Question Everything won Best Reporting of the year from the @podcastacademy.bsky.social this week, for Robyn Semien's investigation into the first American reporter arrested by Israel - and what aspects of his story were true, and not true.
It's an honor to be nominated...
Headed to the (snow-postponed) @thepodcastacademy.bsky.social
Ambie awards. "Question Everything" from @kcrw.com and PlacementTheory is up against some stiff -- and funny -- competition for Podcast of the Year.
Send good vibes...

I've asked this before, but why do news orgs say there are no accusations of wrongdoing against Trump related to Epstein?
v early in Mamdani’s term in office but hard to escape conclusion that he’s causing a lot of snowfall
Some snow day listening -- a story we've been reporting for months about how the government is beating the first amendment: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/q...
Thanks for the clear announcement @nycschools.bsky.social!
I just want to live in a country where the leader can’t enrich themselves with our tax dollars, the government does what the people want, and the wealthy have to follow the laws.
You know, like a democracy.
What is the reason you didn't ask a follow up question?
This is really really worrying me.
Incredible.
This how media capture works. Insidiously... in overtures, innuendos, understood pressures, and, importantly, tied to the flow of money...
Mario was a canary in the coal mine. His story foreshadows much of what we've seen in recent weeks from the ICE, including the arrests of @donlemonofficial.bsky.social and Georgia Fort in Minnesota.
What we found is that the administration blatantly ignored Mario's constitutional protections; lied about his immigration history; and, crucially, enlisted the help of local police who Mario supported and knew personally -- who turned on him.
