A thread of MAGA protesting with guns and not getting murdered for it...

It was, quite deliberately, a menacing intimidation tactic dressed up for the refined audience at Davos.
For a clear read on Trumpβs thinking, see Stephen Millerβs defiant assertion of Americaβs right to act like a superpower, or Treasury Sec Scott Bessentβs description of Denmark as βirrelevantβ.
Although he seemed to rule out the use of force to take the island, Trump spent much of his speech discussing the USβs military might- helpfully reminding the audience about the unilateral deposing of Venezuelaβs leader this month.

Trump's #Davos speech rapid response:
#Trumpβs rambling, 90 minute speech may have sounded somewhat tepid to those expecting fireworks and bombast over Greenland. But all the clues were there that Trump feels deeply driven to acquire what he sees as being rightfully his to take.
Eating dry cereal from the box and wondering if Scott Bessent feels good about himself right now.

I am sat making notes on Trump's #Davos speech and yet somehow his irreverence has almost been eclipsed by his Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.
Denmark is "irrelevant" according to fellow NATO member.
I read David Plouffe's essay about what Democrats need to do, and he has a brilliant idea: come up with an economic plan that appeals to people.
No mention of the information environment, and how regular voters will hear about and believe these appealing economic policies, but that must not matter.
π₯ From @statuscoupnews.bsky.social : βThis is nuts. What the fuck is going on? Iβve never protested in my lifeβ¦ they tell you itβs immigrants β itβs fucking anybody. Theyβre just trying to scare people. Iβm not paid to be here. I have to work in the morning. This is wrong.β

I wrote about the scenarios that could play out, and I see a difficult but most definitely available path out of where the US (and increasingly the UK) has cornered itself.
Hopefully it's a positive note at the end of a fairly sober piece theconversation.com/charlie-kirk...
Donald Trump boasts that he ended the war between βAzerbaijan and Albania".
Azerbaijan and Albania have never been at war together.
The decimation of local news in the US and here in the UK is a disaster for democracy
