Do i even have any Portland readers? I need a few hours of help each day of Oddities this weekend providing you can handle being around taxidermy. Compensation for both or either days will be a badge, souvenir lanyard, fare if you need it; much more if you can actually help sell

Bloodsucking Freaks aka The Incredible Torture Show (TITS). I saw this on VHS when I was way too young and it left a mark. I bought in on DVD when I think Troma rereleased it years ago but have not gone back to watch it again. Definitely fucked up.

I got a subscription to @shudder.com, any indie/cult/offbeat recommendations there?

23.10.2025 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

This may be because I recently finished Horror Story by @paultremblay.bsky.social, and am about halfway through @michaelwehunt.bsky.social's The October Film Haunt, both of which are crazy good and concern the making and legacy of cult horror films.

Perhaps surprisingly, I don’t watch a lot of horror movies. Lately, though, I have been enjoying some indie/offbeat films including: Weapons and Barbarian from Zach Cregger; We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow from Jane Schoenbrun; and Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made.

Late Stage Capitalism, by Neighborhood Brats from the album Claw Marks

h/t to @paultremblay.bsky.social for posting something from Neighborhood Brats years ago on another site and turning me on to the excellent punkrock. This song popped into my head today - released in 2018 and more relevant than ever.

Screenshot of the Dim Shores web store page for Gaspar, a Rangel Bantam Story, by Matthew M. Bartlett. There is a large picture of the cover, which features a bipedal goat with a cloak, and a little girl (Rangel) riding on his back and peering over his left shoulder. They appear to be standing in a field with clouds behind them. The art starts as grayscale at the top and becomes increasingly red the lower down the cover you look. Below that is a smaller picture of a stack of cover art prints - these are grayscale only, no red. Alongside the photos is the description from the web store, as follows:

**1 COPY LEFT**

Gaspar, a Rangel Bantam Story by Matthew M. Bartlett, with art by Aeron Alfrey and cover design by Dan Sauer

Return to devil-haunted Leeds, Massachusetts with Gaspar Bantam as he seeks to come to terms with the disappearance of his little sister Rangel 30 years earlier.

This story is a sequel to Rangel, Matt’s 2015 Dim Shores chapbook. Rangel was the second Dim Shores chapbook and the first solo publication by Matt that was not self-published. It holds a special place in my little black heart and I’m thrilled to publish the next chapter in the Bantam family saga. Once again, the one and only Aeron Alfrey will be providing art for the cover plus two full-page interior illustrations. Cover design by the inimitable Dan Sauer of Jackanapes Press.

52 pages, includes high-quality cover art print and vinyl sticker with some of Aeron's interior art. Limited edition of 200 copies.

ATTENTION INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: I can ship to you but we need to figure out exact shipping costs based on where you live. Please message me - sam at dimshores dot com - and we’ll work it out!

Limited to 200 copies, ONE COPY LEFT. Gaspar by Matthew M. Bartlett, featuring cover and interior art by Aeron Alfrey and cover design by @dansauer.bsky.social. An excellent Halloween-season horror, includes cover art print and a sticker. Once this one is gone, that's it.

DT probably believes it, for the rest of those assholes it’s just an official pretext to go after their foes. Just like β€œwoke” is anything they don’t like, β€œantifa” is now officially anyone who opposes or even just criticizes them. ✊ #fightthepower

Love the whole book but my favorite is β€œAndy Kaufman Creeping through the Trees.” Another story with scenes burned into my mind -- the Clifton performance and the finale at the house are just WILD. And another plug for Laird's audiobooks. The StC narrator took some getting used to but I came around.

I’ll go with β€œThe Men from Porlock,” partially because I saw Laird read from it at NecronomiCon 12 years ago. (12 years?!?) My copy of TBTTAUA was still in the mail when I left for the con so Laird gave me a signed copy to read on the plane ride home. Absolute legend. πŸ–€

β€œHallucigenia.” It made a big dent on my psyche, messed me up for DAYS after I read it the first time. Besides the barn, Helen’s declining medical situation and (especially) the encounter between Wallace and Choate in the alley have never left my memory. Also, the audiobook version is perfect.

β€œMysterium Tremendum” and β€œ--30--β€œ for me. I went back and reread β€œ--30--β€œ after watching They Remain and liked it even better then.
