Agreed! A lot of tists on the vanilla side don't realize you can tell the subject exactly what you're doing. Like "I'm going to tell you something that isn't always true, but I'm going to say it with confidence because believing it can make it true for you. Ready?" and then proceed if they agree.

A lot of them have been trained (conditioned?) to believe they're doing the subject a favor if they can get them to believe this. Others believe it's true, because it's how it worked for them. There probably are some bad actors using it on purpose to gaslight, though.
