That sinking feeling when you realize the last time you saw the flash drive you’re looking for was when you rage cleaned your desk. 😩

If you ever get the chance to see THE INNKEEPERS at a theater, DO IT. It’s one of those movies that plays so much better if you watch it with a crowd.

THE BEST SUMMER really got the 90s touring festival vibe down.

It’s almost as if being willing to die for the greater good and fight for the rights of our neighbors as much as our own is our whole national fucking identity.

From here out, if anyone talks near me in a movie theater, I’m going to shush them into an oblivion. I mean shushing them so hard that they sit stunned in their seats until well after the credits have rolled and an usher has to slap them out of a trance. And it’s going to feel incredible to do it.

I mean yeah it’s an authoritarian takeover but can we take some comfort in the fact that the people doing it are INSANELY stupid?

Film title card for Whirligigs. A blue metal whirligig sculpture spins against a pale sky, framed by visible Super 8 film sprockets. The title ‘whirligigs’ appears in bold yellow gothic lettering across the center, with a copyright notice at the bottom.

I put a short film online today.

It’s a Super 8 ghost story pulled from North Carolina roadside myth.

A hand holds a Criterion Collection Blu-ray of David Lynch’s Lost Highway. The cover art is split horizontally: the top half shows a close-up of a man’s shadowed mouth and chin in a dark, muted tone, and the bottom half shows a black-and-white close-up of a woman’s lips and face. The title “LOST HIGHWAY” runs across the middle in bold yellow text. A TV screen with a blue glow is blurred in the background.

Reese peanut butter cups, and every holiday iteration of them, are the Bret Hart of candy. The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

The excellence of execution, if you will.

Hiss Golden Messenger LIVE at The Rialto Theatre | 500T Super 8 Back in May, Hiss Golden Messenger absolutely lit up The Rialto. I was lucky enough to run the merch table that night and sneak in some Super 8 footage. I did,…

Super 8 footage from the Hiss Golden Messenger show at The Rialto — all Kodak 500T.

I forgot my SD card (🤬), so the audio is from their live album Forward, Children supporting Durham Public Schools.

Enjoy!

A book titled Saul Bass: A Life in Film & Design rests on a gray fabric surface. The white cover features a large black abstract, angular figure reminiscent of Saul Bass’s iconic graphic style. The title is printed in bold orange text, with the authors Jennifer Bass and Pat Kirkham, and a foreword by Martin Scorsese, listed in small blue text in the lower right corner.

When all else fails with getting the creative gears turning, there’s Saul Bass.

Under Recent Activity, four posters appear: Blackout (rated 1½ stars), Honey Don’t! (unrated), Black Angel (rated 2 stars), and The Blue Gardenia (rated 3½ stars). The posters are displayed in a horizontal grid on a dark background.

Another great year of marathons! Making it to the New Bev marathon this year made it even better. Here’s my play-at-home marathon:

1. The Prophecy II (2002)
2. The Aligator People (1957)
3. Repossessed (1990)
4. Death Walks at Midnight (1972)
5. Brainscan (1994)
6. Redneck Zombies (1987)

For at least a couple of shows! Frankenstein tomorrow and The Devil’s Rejects on Monday. I somehow managed to get a ticket to the NewBev horror show today, so I’m pretty stoked about that!

A close-up shot of a weathered red-and-white metal post covered in stickers, including a circular one with a geometric design and the handle “@barbourshopcreative,” a colorful “Imposter Syndrome” sticker with a cartoon figure, and a black-and-white “Sixto” sticker. The background is out of focus, showing gravel and pavement.
