I could go on, but the point is this: if an industry tells you up front that its core aim is to exploit human intelligence for profit without reference to human rights, then the moral thing to do is burn it down and salt the fucking earth.
That these asshole tech companies are ultimately sawing away at the same branch they’re sitting on - that their long-term vision for AI is wholly unsupportable both techwise and at a practical level - doesn’t prevent them from causing mass damage now. They’re the necrotizing fasciitis of society.
The contextually small but highly relevant example of @officialgrammarly.bsky.social stealing people’s names, likenesses and bodies of work without permission or recompense, then trying to put the onus on those they exploited to opt out of their abuse, is a case in point: AI is founded on contempt.
That being so, it should surprise exactly no one that AI companies exploit underpaid workers jn the global south while commuting ecocide; that they plagiarise at an unprecedented scale; that they’re actively undermining education, academia, the arts, the internet - every possible human field.
That AI isn’t actually intelligent doesn’t actually matter: the goal - the sales pitch - is “what if you could profit from labour without having to pay for it,” which implicitly situates labour as valueless. It’s never been about creating a tech utopia; it’s about not having to respect workers.
I don’t think we talk enough about how the foundational, most aspirational premise of the AI industry is “what if there was a human-level intelligence that didn’t have human rights.” Like. Exploitation is literally the whole point! Of COURSE they hold human life, intelligence and labour in contempt!

Which is why, @nytimes.com, learning that a piece of writing is AI changes how people feel about it, in the same way that most people are repulsed by learning a once-favoured artist is a rapist: because context is inherent to interpreting art, and the sole context of genAI is profound contempt.
We call AI output slop not because it's incapable of regurgitating something beautiful, but because vomiting up chunks of mixed restaurant meals is not the same as being a chef. That some of the upchuck can still be parsed as it was on the plate is not thanks to digestion or emesis, but to cooking.
