We can go back and forth about how awful Khamenei was, but that's besides the point. We can note that Iranians are celebrating, but that's besides the point too. If Iran had bombed the WH and killed Trump, I'd be celebrating too. But it would still be wrong, contrary to the rules of int'l law.

I feel like this "red-brown alliance" discourse is yet another attempt by the center to characterize the Left, which is ascendant in American politics, as being as bad as the Trumpists/fascists. It's a bid to lay claim to the anti-Trump coalition, a rebuke of populism. It's also dumb as shit.

This isn't to say that the Left can't do politics to extract concessions from the Right (e.g., Mamdani making Trump release political prisoners, funding). But "I will use my political power to protect people" is not the same as "I am throwing my lot in with the fascists to advance our common cause."

The "red-brown alliance" is bullshit. One of the core tenets of the left -- the actual left -- is antifascism and anti-bigotry. Anyone who locks arms with the fascists isn't a true leftist.
