Outcry grows over ‘clown car’ cabinet but no sign Trump ready for shakeup Antics of RFK Jr, Kristi Noem and others prompt derision – could their erratic behaviour prove president’s undoing?

That’s my understanding of the system, and the last point is an important clarification from your earlier post

Isn’t that the whole point of our proportional representation system. Given the chaos and inequity of voting trend across the UK, it would be nice to have this system for Westminster elections too

What an utterly disgusting and dangerous front page from the Mail today. Surely by now everyone can see that Reform is a party that thrives on division, fuels anger, and uses the scapegoating of minorities and migrants to gain support. Everyone it seems except the Mail

As journalists working today many of us are taught to recognise disinformation when we see it and fight back against it.

Unfortunately there are some who willingly seek it out and put it on their front pages. A disgrace to the profession.

It isn’t just the Mail reporting his comments - they give him a platform. And he’s wrong, as only British citizens can vote. Or is he alleging that local authorities are allowing non-citizens to fraudulently register? If so, a serious allegation which should have consequences for him if vexatious

This is so offensive. The Overton window has moved so far that this sort of disgusting bigotry has become mainstream

Quite something that the fact 70% of voters seem to have rejected insular nationalism, out and out racism and the removal of workers rights doesn’t even seem to have occurred to Reform.

Long way to go, but still think I’m right in thinking the chances of Farage in No 10 remain non-existent.

The Iranian regime is brutal and repressive but they have been attacked by the US and Israel illegally and are responding by attacking US military targets in countries across the middle-east.

It is the height of hypocrisy to suggest Iran must not retaliate against US/Israeli violence.

The morally bankrupt Trump administration has partnered with another morally bankrupt authoritarian to declare an unprovoked war on Iran, already killing scores of civilians.

We need an immediate vote from Congress on a War Powers Resolution. Then articles of impeachment.

The real threat to democracy doesn't come from 'family voting'. It comes from the losing side refusing go accept they've lost

Wouldn't it be amazing if we had a system where people could just vote for the parties they most like, rather than to stop the party they most hate?

First Past the Post needs to be put out of its misery.

Scotland’s children, teachers, and schools can’t afford another lost decade More than a decade ago, the SNP declared it would “eliminate” the attainment gap - but doing so was never possible

Great article from @jamesmcenaney.bsky.social
One consequence of the relentless focus on closing the gap in literacy and numeracy has been a narrowing of the curriculum. So the aim to improve attainment has led to a reduction in the quality of education

Today marks four years since Putin launched his illegal, full-scale invasion of Ukraine, bringing unimaginable destruction.

Scotland stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Ukraine and we will do all we can to support a peaceful, sovereign future for Ukraine. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇦

I'd like to personally apologise to Nigel Farage for this post.

According to the Guardian he Farage reportedly travelled by private jet to the Maldives where he spent just over a day before heading back to the UK.

So no business class seats were bought.

So sorry.

It feels to me Zia Yusuf is saying these things precisely to keep immigration in the headlines as of course that plays to Reform’s strength (it’s nothing without its anti-immigration rhetoric really). And so we are caught in a bind: by opposing it, as we absolutely have to, we also amplify it.

Arp 142, two interacting galaxies, observed in near- and mid-infrared light. At left is NGC 2937, nicknamed the Egg. Its center is brighter and whiter. There are six diffraction spikes atop its gauzy blue layers. At right is NGC 2936, nicknamed the Penguin. Its beak-like region points toward and above the Egg. Where the eye would be is a small, opaque yellow spiral. The Penguin’s distorted arms and orange dust lanes from the bird’s beak, back, and tail. The tail is wide and layered, like a beta fish’s tail. A semi-transparent blue hue traces the Penguin and extends from the galaxy, creating an upside-down U over top of both galaxies. At top right is another galaxy seen from the side, pointing roughly at a 45-degree angle. It is largely light blue. Its length appears approximately as long as the Egg’s height. One foreground star with large, bright blue diffraction spikes appears over top of the galaxy and another near it. The entire black background is filled with tiny, extremely distant galaxies.

JWST NIRCam and MIRI image of Arp 142, also known as NGC 2936, NGC 2937, and UGC 5130, or the Penguin and the Egg.

The Penguin is a spiral galaxy whose shape has been distorted by the gravity of the elliptical Egg galaxy.
