Many Americans are hurting right now because of the shutdown, but caving to Republicans won’t end the hurt.

Trump and his lapdogs continue to assert that they alone have the power to slash whatever programs they don’t like.

Deals with this regime are meaningless.

When the conservative justices issue a shadow docket opinion like this one, they often stress that they are not ruling on the merits. But the only snippet of legal argument the majority dares to include—the assertion that the Passport Policy conveys “a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment”—reveals a lot about how the justices really feel about the transgender plaintiffs before them. By allowing the administration to require people to use the marker associated with the “historical fact” of their sex assigned at birth, the conservatives are tacitly endorsing Trump’s position that any other gender identity is, in some sense, “false”—not real, not serious, and not entitled to their respect. The logic is every bit as transphobic as Trump’s executive order; the Court simply uses more legalese to embrace it.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Trump’s passport sex markers policy conveys as much casual transphobia as a two-page judicial opinion ever could without actually including slurs. Absolutely vile stuff. ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/the-suprem...

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

It's not this country's first. And the current genocide(s) are actively occurring.

I cannot emphasize this enough that for YEARS:

-trans women played various women’s sports.

-trans kids got medical assistance as they and their parents needed.

-trans folk could get accurate documents.

-trans folk used the bathrooms that felt appropriate.

AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.
