I heard some brave testimony on Thursday at an Iowa Senate subcommittee on a bill that would redefine child abuse in Iowa to exclude actions that "raise, guide, and instruct a child in a manner consistent with the child’s sex."
LGBTQ advocates warn the bill would greenlight "conversion therapy."

Conservatives were on the record in January 2023 in the NYT saying explicitly that they targeted trans youth to be able to ban transitioning for everyone. They admitted it but then every dumb centrist was like "but what about the evidence on trans youth."

Intent does not negate impact. Be careful & mindful of the words and actions you choose, especially now when there are people experiencing unimaginable violence, loss and despair; when people are dying.
We should be trying to ease that suffering, not contributing to it.
The good human thing to do is make sure that we are not only examining our position and privilege in these power dynamics but adjusting our words and actions accordingly so that we do not contribute to their suffering or oppression through erasure or marginalization.
War is not an equalizer.
The dynamics of power & oppression that exist before war are not neutralized but exacerbated in times of war.
Oppressed communities are more oppressed, put in more dangerous & lethal situations than ever before.
