Speaking for me, I started my channel for the love of teaching jazz and felt so incredibly fortunate when it grew to also be my career.
I remind myself often of that to stay level headed.

Going to Costco on Saturday is like visiting Times Square, except everyone has oversized carts full of 19 watermelons and is standing around waiting for their chicken bake number to be called.

No matter what the audience felt, or how well you executed it. You had something to say, and you said it. And thatβs enough for me.

I hung a camera on a gimbal from the ceiling on a rope and made this faux drone shot over my piano.
I think itβs dope.

I absolutely love BlueSky, but almost none of my audience has found me here⦠even with promotion.
They are still over in that other place.
Anyone had success getting their audience moved over? Would love some advice.
Just had a final workshop with a small jazz πΉ group working on Groovinβ High, and every one of them nailed the play through at the end. This was quite a challenge for many of them.
Iβm so flipping proud!
Also, fun fact, I neglected to prepare this late last week as I usually do, so now I am doing it from a Panera without a piano.
I did find the starting note on my way out the door though. π (It's a G)
Somehow, after doing a solo transcription every week for years I've never done Stan Getz solo on Girl From Ipanema.

I tried something new on the channel this week. A look inside Jon Batiste's performance at the Superbowl from my perspective as a jazz pianist.

It's been a long time since I felt that about any of Meta's products. I am still on IG because so much of my audience is there. But I only trust Meta to serve Meta at this point.
X doesn't even need a mention. TikTok is at risk.
Typically that means YouTube and now BlueSky.
YouTube isn't perfect. The algorithm is powerful and complex. I've spoken with @toddb.com and @reneritchie.bsky.social at a conference and I believe that focus on the user is their north star.
"Make content for people, not algorithms"
I have this posted 3 places in my studio / office and it's still something I struggle with every day.
Algorithms are powerful. I've spend the most time on platforms where the algorithms are designed to align with whats good for the user.
