Fascinating stuff! Could you explain why you see this myth as being particularly β€œdamaging”?

But I’m sure you know most of that! As you say, it’s mostly a matter of elbow grease and whether you have any to spare.

Yeah, you could increase the water changes. Filter seems fine to me. There are a lot of good abrasive scrubbies out there that get the mineral scale off the glass pretty easily. For the surface scum, you could get a small, cheap surface skimmer, which would also help with the scale.

Carny fish. Do you do water changes, or do you just top off the water to compensate for evaporation? Topping off too much will result in calcium and magnesium concentrating in the water over time.

12.02.2026 17:20 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Well I fuss over them a lot and that’s probably the main answer. But I also have hard water and could maybe help you deal better with that? Do you mean there’s mineral scale rim on your glass, or are you getting a scum on the surface of the water itself?

Why are copyright problems plaguing figure skating at the Milan Cortina Olympics? Copyright issues have been a major challenge during the Milan Cortina Olympics figure skating program.

It’s simply the case that orchestras and classical record labels etc generally aren’t as litigious as pop stars. Plus it can be hard to tell your performance of a piece apart from someone else’s performance. But computers can tell, hence copyright claims from classical labels on YouTube.

The International Skating Union long forbade the use of lyrics in any discipline besides ice dance, forcing athletes to perform to older pieces of music β€” often classical tunes, such as piano concertos. Those pieces were considered part of the public domain, which meant that they could be used or modified freely and without permission.

That changed in 2014, when the ISU lifted its ban on lyrics in the hope of appealing to younger audiences.

Ooo, this is very incorrect, @apnews.com. You may not have to get permission from a long-dead composer, but you absolutely do need permission from the people who own the specific recording you’re using, which is generally not in the public domain yet.

The 2000s are to mainstream hip-hop as the 1980s are to mainstream rock β€” not necessarily the best era, but probably the most fun. Party time. (And also extremely good in spots.)

Realized I got a major factual thing wrong in a video (not yet released), and when I tried to trace my mistake, I realized I got it from an incorrect citation in a well-regarded scholarly source and I shudder to imagine how many times that’s happened and I haven’t caught it.

Another trick is to use 00 pizza flour, as I did here. The extra protein adds smoothness and chewiness, while the ultra-fine 00 milling gets you an almost paper-like smoothness on breads and other stuff. One of my best original recipes, tbh. youtu.be/raNLUgnfTTQ?...

A plate of chocolate chip cookies with smooth surfaces punctuated with deep fissures, created by using powdered sugar instead of granulated, shaping the dough into smooth pucks, putting them under the broiler until a golden skin develops, pulling them out, and then baking them until done at 350F convection.

One of the biggest differences between homemade and factory baked goods, I’ve become convinced, is the grain size of the sugar. Use powdered sugar, you’ll get a more β€œpro” finish, fwiw.

There are days when I want to produce a Viking steaming series with a character named β€œErmugerd” just to set it up where, in season 4, Ermugerd time travels to the present and somebody exclaims β€œoh my god,” but like β€œErmugerd.”

Exactly! They were orchestrating the song on their instruments instead of just thinking of themselves as an add-on rhythm section. And man, those backup vocals. Such a cool band that kinda got forgotten because the singer’s voice had a Christian rock vibe.
