Why is this weapon scientist delivering a melodramatic monologue instead of describing how the giant laser works

Foundation is still decent and I still want a cut where they eliminate Gail's narration completely.
If you replaced it with silence it would be better and you'd still understand everything just fine.

Braised ribs! Italian style. Made a sauce with the tomato and pepper braising base, not pictured.

Leaflet.pub is so good, I've decided I will probably abandon my blog publishing app project and use it instead.
Unfortunately that project was procrastination for actually writing something and now I may actually have to write something.
I have been saying that we need the board game nerds to write a new constitution with balance patches

28.07.2025 02:11 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Probably also plays a part in the effectiveness of our patterning to begin with; enjoying, inventing, and seeking out memorable counterexamples seems beneficial. The social phenomenon of joining in laughing when you don't know the joke is training, too.
28.07.2025 02:11 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Humor is a really neat trait.
If you wrote a story about aliens whose adaptive superpower was pattern matching, you might give them existential breakdowns whenever things veered wildly out of expectations. But humans love it.
Old (early 'AI', 80s) but still relevant, I picked up Studying Those who Study Us on a random rec and found it thoughtful.
Basic argument: everyone underestimates how much goes into human experience until you try to encode it.
e.g. how do humans know any random SCP is fun fiction? Not trivial!
Good. I like the Zod middleware particularly. But typing breaks down a bit with any fancy middleware behaviors.

26.07.2025 22:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0People talk about how the movie made them feel hopeful. I think part of what that means is it challenged you to think of how to be a better person while also, importantly, not depicting it as depressingly hard, costly, and complicated.
Sometimes (sometimes) it's genuinely not!
It doesn't explore these ideas very deeply, but it frames them in an effective way to make an impression on the audience.
And the fact that it's fun is an aid to this, not a compromise.
More reflections on Superman:
Art does not have to be serious to impart meaningful ideas. The movie is purposefully fun but also has something to say about virtue, conscience, and the mire of ethical justification paralyzing good and legitimizing evil.
This line activated my cynicism / derision immediately but the cool thing about the movie was I liked it so much I actually sat there and examined why I found the line lame and whether that was just a self-protective response.
Enjoying things is a door to self-reflection.
I get the sense the film was both trying to be very fun and also hit this point really hard. Which was a great call.

Explained what SCP was and how much it replies on the reader's sense of reality to land as entertaining fiction versus horrible secret truth. And how that context may be missing for an AI reader.
