When you write something, you pin a piece of yourself down. It's like nailing your pant leg down to the floor. Once it is written, you can't stray from it, you have to walk within the circumference established. The more public the writing, the deeper the nail is driven. Thus writing changes you.

This was one of my favorite works by Frances Yates. I like/appreciate/admire everything she wrote; even so, The Rosicrucian Enlightenment blew me away.

My library; scenes by day. A small fraction of the total.

As I gradually move from fiction to history, my scope widens. Classical literature is still my favorite. Mind you, with authors like Herodotus, fiction and history do tend to get a bit blurred.

*ahem* not weird at all. My dad had a fair number (very few of the Latin texts), but as a scholar, he was more particular about which titles were on his shelves. Me? I’m more of a magpie.
I only have one volume of Julian. I pick them up where/as I find them.

Thank you. Amassing it appears to have become a life-long obsession.

Books are good wherever/however they are. I love looking at everyone’s shelves. Even when I should clearly be doing something else.

Your little eye correctly spies my growing Loeb Library (the Greek green and Latin red) collection. Harvard/Heinemann. Cambridge would also be ok. But I dig the Loeb…
