Should note that this is only in classical Shankaran Advaita Vedanta. Vishishtadvaita Vedanta uses ‘nirguna’ to mean Vishnu completely lacks impure attributes. Ramakrishna’s Vijnana Vedanta views Nirguna and Saguna as equal, not one being “ultimate” and the other “relative”.

Doubly interesting considering he himself is not really that popular. Everyone knows vaguely about eldritch horrors, Cthulhu, &c., but Lovecraft as a person is relatively unknown by most outside of maybe the adjective “Lovecraftian”.

In the sense of actually comparing the religions, no. But it does make sense in this case because the Germanic languages pulled the names of the weekdays from the Roman names using Interpretatio Germanica. I would agree that they should have noted that in the post, though.

They’re mainly going off Interpretatio Germanica, in which the continental form of Odin is interpreted as being their name for Mercury.

Honestly, I am one of the few who actually prefer e-books. The actual physical experience of a book is unmatched, but when it comes to reading I do so much better with an e-book, unfortunately. It helps me to focus more since I don’t have to worry about pages moving or the weight, &c.

Not to say the more relaxed or silly film aren't fun, I just really think Godzilla works so much better as a disturbing nigh-horror film. Kaiju mindlessly fighting and destroying cities is great fun to watch, but it isn't near as impactful.

I finally watched 'Godzilla Minus Zero' today & it was incredible. It may be my favourite Godzilla film & among my favourite films in general. I hope if a sequel is made that it keeps to the more serious tone & doesn't devolve into absurdity like the older ones.

- Hinduism, specifically Advaita Vedanta. I am a convert.

- Writing & reading. My favourite genres are horror (cosmic, psychological, Gothic), weird fiction, mythology, & similar. I wish to be a writer of both fiction & essay if need be.

- Linguistics. Esp. phonology & historical.

Generally prefer more 'pure' horror, humour could be fine. I tend to dislike romance, but I am willing to try that out, as well. Really, it just depends—it could go either way for me.

Thank you again. Of the authors listed, I probably know the least about Blackwood, so I am very intrigued.

Very well put, actually, I will be using that as advice, haha. I would agree, I like Lovecraft's style but it can get rather distracting. I would lean more towards liking King's style, only I quite like archaisms and formal & obscure verbiage. Honestly, I read Smith just for vocabulary sometimes.

Very fun list. My favourites are King, Lovecraft, Poe, & Smith—not only from that list but overall. I have been meaning to get into Bierce, Blackwood, & Chambers, but have not yet. Read a story of Howard’s and it was fine, I should probably read more of him as well.

Please don't call what RFK Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya are going to do medieval. It's not medieval. It's nothing like the Middle Ages. People in the Middle Ages were happy to try all kinds of things to not die of the plague and if you'd given them antibiotics and vaccines they would have loved it.
