In the wake of the horrific ICE killings in Minnesota, many prominent Democrats have called for ICE to wear body cameras. Yesterday, @equalityalec.bsky.social talked to @democracynow.org about how important it is that we don't get distracted by meaningless & counterproductive reforms.

Body cams are surveillance tools dressed up as accountability measures.

The National Guard is still patrolling DC, carrying handguns & long rifles, patrolling vibrant community spaces in packs to intimidate residents, especially Black residents, of the city.

Keep that in mind as you see the videos of them handing out pizza & coffee in MN.

ICE is not untrained, they’re unrestrained.

Abolish is the floor. Democrats need to come along or get out of the people’s way.

Don't worry at all about this. People on social media have ZERO CONTEXT for most things and are also easily riled up. What you all shared could be read IN FULL on IG and people should have taken a step back to evaluate again after that. They did not because people have a hard time pulling back.

and before they can be used, people have to be educated about what they mean. enough people have to have them, and know how to respond.

and places have to be dense enough that there are enough people to come ASAP.

I haven't seen the dunks but I will say that LOCAL CONDITIONS have to determine TACTICS. Folks, whistles are just a tactic and tactics vary according to context. Why waste time on this? If you've organized for 10 minutes, you know this is true. Keep it moving.

People not in the US routinely downplay the degree to which law enforcement in this country is willing to kill us.

In grad school I referenced this analysis that found that cops in the US kill more people than "criminals" do in other countries. And that's routine.

The "nobodies" doing "nothing" are the ELITES and most of the politicians representing you. PEOPLE in their communities are in motion, everywhere. You just have to pay attention and importantly you have to JOIN THEM.
