I remember how useful the sidebar of links to other blogs once was—they rather quickly demonstrated how much someone read only people like themselves—and I wonder if that’s why I’ve no patience for the newsletter-era equivalent of “politics guy who only cites other similarly-situated politics guys”

Not only is this a bad use of passive voice but the comparison is completely inapt: both medical marijuana and assisted suicide were illegal and advocates wanted to make them legal, whereas the Trump admin and states are criminalizing previously lawful conduct, and advocates are trying to stop that.

I guess if the Times wants an alibi for not having itself “engulfed” trans kids in “legal controversy,” then they have to extend that alibi to the Trump policies without which this lawsuit would not exist

The lawsuit, filed by attorneys general for 15 states and the governor of Pennsylvania, asks the federal court to declare that the government policies that prompted the investigations into pediatric transgender care were unlawful and must not be enforced. The lawsuit argues that the Justice Department's actions "reflect an unconstitutional attempt to infringe on the states' pewer to regthate medicine. The lawsuit places transgender care for children alongside other health services that have been engulfed in legal controversy amid federal efforts to restrict those services, even as some states are trying to allow them. This has happened in fights over abortion, medical marijuana and physician-assisted suicide. More than half of U.S. states have passed laws restricting gen-der-transition treatments for mi-nors. In some other states, those treatments have some protections
