Two prominent yellow stars bookend the image. Close to the leftmost bright star is a large red nebula that looks like a jellyfish. Between the brights stars are other faint regions of glowing gas and dust. A small blue reflection nebula is centered at the top of the frame. The dark background behind the scene is dotted with numerous stars.

I’ve been working on the Jellyfish Nebula (IC 443) and surrounding region for a while. The jellyfish is a supernova remnant - shrapnel from a star that exploded ~30,000 years ago

A portion of the Tarantula Nebula, made of variously colored layers of dust clouds. One upper layer is dark reddish dust which is dense and obscures light, in places so dense that it appears black. A middle layer holds pale clouds that are thick like curling wisps of smoke. They form a broad bow across the center of the image. Many small, bright stars lie throughout the nebula. They appear as blue, purple, or red depending on depth.

last night was my first time experiencing TRUE dark skies.

it was such an emotional experience and it made me hate light pollution even more.

Semi-opaque layers of blue, purple, and grey gas and dust start at the bottom left and rise toward the top right. There are three prominent pillars. The left pillar is the largest and widest. The background is orange near the top and dark blue and purple near the bottom. Some blue and white stars dot the overall scene.
