World Hearing Day 2026 It’s time to talk about hearing 18 million people have hearing loss in the UK, yet many people continue to ignore the symptoms. 66% of hearing aid users wish they had started using them sooner. Older people with hearing loss are two and a half times more likely to suffer from mental ill health. Managing age-related hearing loss with hearing aids, in people aged between 45-65 years, could reduce their risk of dementia in later life by 7%. THE GREAT RESIGNATION The UK economy loses an estimated £25 billion each year in lost productivity and unemployment due to unaddressed hearing loss. 40% of people with hearing loss retire early due to struggles with communication at work. 1/3 of all UK workers are aged 50 and over, so employers must be ready to support more people with hearing loss in the workplace in order to retain sta  .

World Hearing Day aims to highlight the scale of hearing loss, especially in ageing populations around the world. It is estimated that by 2035, 14.6 million adults will be suffering with age-related hearing loss in the UK.
