I don't buy it. Not from the small studios I've seen making these things. It's really difficult to make something as labor-intensive and uncertain as a video game with that kind of cynicism as your sole motivator. Especially an RPG.

If you want a game that, like DE, applies very granular crunch to social interactions and investigation with fail-forward design that doesn't just ape DE, I have to recommend Scarlet Hollow. It's dressed up like a VN but it's under the hood it takes a lot of the best lessons from Disco.
