Based on a range of discussions I've seen on here lately, I want to observe that I think people in elite circles often confuse the broad progressive voter base with the small minority that is the activist left. In doing so, they overestimate how actively political progressive voters are.

John Woodcock quit the Labour party and didn't seek re-election as an MP because he wanted to dodge an investigation into his sexual harassment of a staffer. Boris Johnson then gave him a peerage for campaigning for the Tories in 2019 and now he's telling the BBC what to do. Cool, very cool.

We don't need their tax, it doesn't fund spending.

Is it to punish them for being too rich?

Will a wealth tax stop them from continuing to be super wealthy?

Would it be better to focus efforts to stop them extracting all the wealth in the first place?

Wealth taxes won't stop people being wealthy enough to subvert democracy (the problem).

A focus on land tax and IHT might offer some hope.
