That’s so great to hear. Ironically I think they’re the most popular documents I’ve ever written

Thank *you* Erin!

Such a treat to see you teach with such passion, clarity, and insight

I learned so much & I know the students did too!

& grateful for the opportunity to share ideas— looking forward to the next time!

Jack Sivan’s Suits Come Alive From the Waist Down Jack Sivan started his namesake tailoring and men’s wear business after freelancing for luxury labels like the Row.

With so much awfulness in the news, here’s some good news about my eldest. Sharing with pride:

Ah just general uneasiness

For me, I would worry if I lost google books (esp Ngrams) or google trends. Very useful for research. Losing GS: 🤷

Learning Deep, General Lessons from Black History Yesterday marks the opening of a month dedicated to learning about, and from, the history of the Black experience in the United States (and the Americas more generally).

Episode 2 of O/I, on Black family reunions*, was one of the most rewarding projects I’ve had privilege to work on

Deeply moving
Deep lessons about the logic of collective identity

*Wha??? The events with the t-shirts are important? Yup!

It’s almost 4 hours though (25 min intermission) & feels longerz You spend the second half wanting to look at your watch & wondering how the hell they’re going to tie everything together— & they never do.

Yeah. Each of the four of us who went together kinda looked at each other to see who would break the ice. Somehow we did & were each so relieved we were on the same page.

Saw #TheBrutalist last night

Everyone I was with agreed it was among the worst movies we’ve ever seen

Incoherent jumble of cliched ideas, unfollowable plot, uninteresting characters, self-indulgent pacing

Anyone who tells you it’s good either has no taste or is afraid to name a naked emperor

As much as the algo at the old place could be annoying, the algo here makes this site next to useless

Unless I’m missing something?

What would New Year's be like had Britain Just Corrected the Julian Calendar Instead of Dumping It? Imagine how anxious you would be if the calendar were altered in a substantial way.

A new year’s post on the surprising, paradoxical gifts embedded in modern new years celebrations;

on the roads not taken that could have made for a very different new year’s experience &

on the hidden costs associated with those gifts

Happy 2025!

My fav thing to do when seeing America from the sky is to see how much of the landscape is colonized by what— from a landscape perspective at least— will always be America’s favorite pastime

Putin revives antisemitic trope, accusing Jews of tearing apart the Russian Orthodox Church * * *

Two months ago,🇮🇱 was so unsure of its victory over Hezb/🇮🇷 & so unaware of implications for Syria, it wanted 🇷🇺 as regional power to help enforce 🇮🇱 - 🇱🇧 deal

Now Putin is powerless & humiliated in Middle East so pathetically reverting to Tsarist antisemitism

Thx for this post, Dave. I really can’t see a strong counter to this. I wonder also if this is in fact the case in various fields such as medicine where articles are written in very standardized formats

Why Do Scholars Only Care about Plagiarism when it's Students? Post 3 of a series on lessons learned since October on campus

My collaborator & friend @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social has an interesting post on plagiarism & intellectual property theft, which is unfortunately quite common.

One issue I’d add is the POSITIVE value of self-plagiarism for Data & Methods sections.
