When THE romance novel queen @carleyfortune.bsky.social says you're one of her role models, you might rethink your resistance to the title lol.

Working on revising my first draft before submitting it. I think this is probably the slowest self-revision I’ve done. All the scenes are in the right place, but I’m rewriting most of them. The relationship dynamic is tricky in this one!
Spending the weekend on draft 1 self-revisions. It’s such slow work! Grateful to have a partner who takes care of the kids while I hunker down.
A wild ride indeed!

Typed THE END on the first draft of my fifth novel today. Much work to be done, but the bones are now in place. The best feeling!
you made me obsessed @carleyfortune.bsky.social! 😅
😂😂😂😂
Establishing a simple morning ritual before I get started with writing: Read a poem. Sit and breathe. Move to the desk.
44,000 words into my manuscript, and I have finally figured out my heroine’s surname! 🎉
I’ve been sick for more than a week and not able to write like I usually can. Trying not to push myself as per usual and instead going to try “slow writing.” Is this already a term? If not, I’m calling it. I’m going to take my time on each sentence and word because my brain can’t move fast.
I redid my author photos yesterday, which has long been on my to-do list. I had a vision of something a bit different with Big Dress Energy. I’m sick of regular headshots. It took a big chunk out of the day, but I think it’ll be worth it! Back to regular writing today.
Went to my desk at 5:30 this morning (couldn’t sleep) and started writing. I was interrupted by kids 45 minutes later, but I did manage to break 30k words in my manuscript before that. I love writing in the morning when it’s dark and it feels like the world is still asleep—so cozy and witchy.
I only have a half-day to write today so am hoping for 1,000 words but who knows? My characters have just arrived at their destination, and I find knew sections like this can be slow to crack.
Ha ha! Relatable. Although I think there’s an argument to be made that nonsense is better than nothing?
Going forward, at least for now.
I feel like my daily word count goal has started to hinder more than help. I’ve got to a part in my manuscript where I need to spend a couple hours planning and imagining, and I find myself resisting b/c of my word goal. So I’m throwing it out the window!
I’ve been at my desk working for 2 hours without having done any writing, and I was stress crying on and off all of yesterday. Writing doesn’t necessarily get easier or feel more spacious when you’re doing it full-time. Will try to cram in 2k words today.
It means “to come.” Often used in journalism and writing as a quick placeholder for information that’s forthcoming.
Today:
- write 2,000 words, though I’d love if I could stretch it up to 3k. That rarely (maybe never?) happens. I’m not a super speedy drafter, even when I leave my manuscript riddled with TKs
For sure. I still don’t have surnames for either of my main characters. It’ll come.
Went straight to my desk when I woke at 6. I find it hard to keep up with the non-writing part of being an author this time of year. There’s a lot of gear up for the next publication cycle (ONE GOLDEN SUMMER! OUT MAY 6!) at the same time I’m cracking into a new novel. Aiming for the usual 2k!
