It rots and gets disposed of. Depending on crop, could be burned, buried, composted, etc

These programs weren't set up this way simply for the benefit of recipients. They are by design also a subsidy for American agriculture. That's the longstanding red-blue, rural-urban political deal of it. Like how they're getting nuked by the trade war, they are cannibalizing their own coalition.

Ah, but you see they're going to spend $$$$$$$$ to bail out the welfare queen farmers, so rural red America can still profit at the expense of everyone else

Exclusive | CBS News taps Adam Rubenstein β€” once ostracized at NY Times for liking Chick-fil-A β€” as new deputy editor Sources expect Rubenstein will effectively run the Free Press now that Weiss will be busy steering the editorial direction of shows like β€œ60 Minutes,” β€œFace The Nation” and …

crazy that one of the most storied institutions in american journalism is going to be run by two people with basically no experience to do it

Once the race is certified by Arizona, anyone authorized to administer oaths can swear in Grijalva. Could be a judge, could be another MoC, could be a plain notary public.

My understanding is the certification happens on October 14th

I agree, don't fire the first shot. But I think there's a qualitative difference between initiating violence and not backing down from a confrontation that certainly seems inevitable

I've posted this picture before but I do find it interesting that the police here arresting Carlo Gambino, at the time one of the most dangerous men in America with dozens of killers at his command, didn't feel the need to cover their faces because they are not ashamed of their work

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

Ellison's CBS brought on the two editors that got NYT to publish Tom Cotton's 2020 op-ed calling for soldiers to shoot protesters in the streets. Hard to find a clearer editorial throughline than "anyone protesting murder by the state should be killed for it."

The idea that the courts are going to restrain Stephen Miller is dubious, and the idea that Congress would do so is fatuous

Or they realize that we're still in Year 1 of 4, and "losing more but slower" may not be preferable to a coin flip between "lose more faster" and "stop losing"

People have been at pains to point out that a lot of the admin's calculus doesn't make sense unless they really think there won't be another free and fair election, and that's still on the table for sure

But also it makes sense if their intent is to abuse the fuck out of the pardon power

If Trump lives to the end of his presidency, I suspect he's going to resign and accept a pardon from President Vance

This guy told the Speaker of the House to do everything in his power to stop the discharge petition, including extending the shutdown just to avoid the swearing in of someone who would make it happen. Think about how awful the info in there must be. Asking Rs to eat the shutdown just to protect him.

Stephen Miller wants a right wing radical to murder a judge. And the reason he wants that is because he thinks fear will change future rulings and that there will not be political consequences for the party that incites violence against their enemies

Judge Poised to Free Abrego Garcia if Officials Can’t Supply Deportation Plans

The Trump admin has lied about this case from the start β€” and now it can't get its story straight about next steps for Mr. Abrego Garcia.

This reeks of a political prosecution and the courts must continue to ensure his due process rights are protected.

Judge speaks out after her $1.5m mansion 'exploded' Diane Goodstein, 69, was out walking on the beach when the suspected arson attack happened - just weeks after she had issued a decisive ruling against the Trump administration.

Seems suboptimal

Like, instead of offering us aspirin for the pain, just stop kicking us in the collective dick.
