The Shreveport Aquarium, in partnership with Caddo Lake Institute, holds an annual Paddlefish Festival (every March 9th) to teach folks about this species, do arts & crafts, and even a Paddlefish Release into the Caddo Waterways!

Though the American paddlefish was once common throughout the Mississippi River basin & the rivers of the Midwest, their populations have declined drastically in the last 150 years.
This is due primarily because of overfishing, habitat destruction, dam construction, pollution, and poaching.
A (much-larger) close relative of the American Paddlefish was the Chinese Paddlefish - which was on IUCN's critically endangered list since the 1990s. However, it was last seen alive in the wild in 2003. Unfortunately, it was officially declared extinct in 2020.
It's National American Paddlefish Day!
A day to celebrate one of the most unusual & ancient fish still swimming in North American waters.
Paddlefish relatives have lived on Earth for over 125 million years (before the dinosaurs!) Today, only 1 species remains.

The shark is thought to be a Southern Sleeper Shark.
Somniosidae (Sleeper Sharks) is a family of about 20 species (including the famous Greenland Shark) they are some of the longest-living vertebrates on Earth, known for slow movement, deep habitats, and surviving conditions most creatures can’t.
Scientists knew sharks lived in southern oceans - but it was always believed that sharks didn't live close to Antarctica.

Agreed! Brooklyn was always my favorite.
Last thing I need is my shop platform provider thinking my shop is a scam or anything. So for my business' protection, going in maintenance mode for a few days.
Hoping that this will make all those scammers try elsewhere.
Fins crossed.
Begrudgingly put my shop on maintenance mode for a bit. My shop has been the target of a bunch of scammers testing stolen credit cards in the last week.
I have fraud protection apps installed that won't collect payment or will cancel immediately, but it's still tiresome.
