The early to mid 90s saw a lot of new hope for accessing abortion care. The late 80s saw France approve Mifepristone, and by the mid-late 90s in the US, Bill Clinton had started working on having the medication allowed into the US. These efforts were heavily protested by pro-life advocates. cont'd
We're old enough to remember watching this on the news at the time. There was a LOT of pro-life protest and violence back then. Threats to doctors who performed abortions, as well as staff, was quite common in the U.S. The anti-abortion movement saw an increase in the mid/late 80s-2000s. cont'd 👇🧵

What kind of negative effects do women have when they experience sexism? These can vary based on the frequency of negative experiences but depression and anxiety are some of the most common effects.

We're incredibly sad that we've had to report on numerous similar cases of suicide that had been encouraged by a chatbot. When people look for help, or even just a friendly companion, this shouldn't be what they end up with. 😢
Yes: this is what it can feel like: "not watching feels irresponsible and privileged, while watching feels destabilizing. To disengage can feel like moral failure. Yet staying engaged can feel like emotional depletion." It can be brutal, and we need to pace ourselves.
We're proud of efforts by people such as Ian's to help out families in Minnesota. This is what we mean when we say that efforts don't necessarily have to cost *you* financially. You CAN be an organizer and simply develop the plan of who you're going to help, in whatever way and get things rolling.
Really excellent article from Matthew Green that everyone should read. With so many age verification laws coming into effect, there needs to be some sort of verification system that doesn't blatantly wreck the user's privacy.
It's well known that these states are rather hostile to LGBTQIA+ persons, with laws put in to make life even more difficult for them. That hatred of trans in these states, combines with racism to make things even worse, particularly for black trans women. 😢
This is NOT surprising to us at all given the states investigated for this report. Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama have all had pretty horrible support and laws to help transgender people. What they HAVE had a lot of is hatred and intolerance. 👇🧵
Hatred against women has been on the rise again the past few years. With that inevitably comes violence against them, typically from partners. Shelter spaces to accommodate them is usually lacking, with many people turned away due to lack of space. 😢
While the US shows a lack of respect and concern towards many of it's female veterans, Canada is stepping up. A new program being launched, will focus on getting their female vets the #MentalHealth help and support they need.
