Happy #FossilFriday from the Sternberg Protostega, a giant sea turtle from Kansas. While adults reach fin spans of about 15 feet, this poor lil guy died when it was only 4 years old and only 3 feet wide. It was tough going then, this plastron preserves marks that look like they were mosasaur bites

A humpback whale calf lunges with its mouth open while its mother slaps her pectoral fin

Some photos I took off Fremantle, Australia last week! This humpback whale calf spent around 10-15 minutes repeatedly opening and closing its mouth at the surface, possibly trying to clean out its baleen after nursing (or maybe just having fun…!)

There there is still so much beauty in the world.
