Toxic Pollution From Iran War Will Spread and Last for Decades Exploding fuel infrastructure and missiles have released contaminants that put the health of millions of people at risk.

Strikes on Iran are unleashing toxic pollutants that likely will linger for decades, poisoning the environment and posing health risks

yeah, so much of the ai in education stuff simply assumes that learning isn't important, which is... not great

I guess what I'm saying is I can see a clear trajectory toward an outcome where *everyone* loses, but for iran that's no worse outcome than losing the "easy" way

if the u.s. is undeterred by price increases that cripple th global economy, then everyone loses but if iran's options are to lose or to lose, it doesn't care

I don't think it's a problem per se, it's just a side effect of being in an existential fight. they don't have any other options available period; the bet is they can endure the pain of a price spike (because their goal is survival) but the u.s. can't (because its goal is... ???)

we recently made the switch to electric (finally) ourselves and I absolutely adore the Ioniq EV9. It's also true for road trips (youth basketball tournaments in central PA) it takes a bit more thinking/planning. But, after a few of those you get completely used to it and it's smooth sailing.

Question: There have been some searing images in the past two weeks. The school girls who it appears were killed by Tomahawk missiles, which are used by the United States. The destruction of heritage sites [and the] bombing of a city like Isfahan.

Answer: Yes. Those things will turn the Iranian public hugely against the United States and Israel. It convinces the population that the US and Israel are not liberators and are out to destroy Iran. It’s not about the regime, it’s about Iran.

Strong recommend for this great interview by Mishal Husain with Vali Nasr, the Iranian-American scholar.

they used to have parachutes but decided a) too much weight, b) too much prep time, c) rare for these jets to have incidents anyway

yeah, it's no secret--air force removed them in 2008 because they were extra weight and took too much time to prep
