How much? The European Union and the European Space Agency will fund around 6.3 billion EUR (60% of the constellation); the three operators in the SpaceRISE consortium (Eutelsat, SES and Hispasat) will invest around 4 billion EUR.

When? IRIS² should come into service in late 2030 / early 2031.

Today, the concession contract for 🇪🇺 IRIS² has been signed.

What? IRIS² is a public-private partnership involving a multi-orbit satellite constellation of almost 300 assets in both LEO and MEO.

Who? The EU Commission, the EU Parliament, the SpaceRISE consortium, and the European Space Agency.

Europe signs contracts for IRIS² constellation The European Commission and ESA signed contracts with an industrial consortium Dec. 16 to develop a secure connectivity constellation with a total cost of 10.6 billion euros ($11.1 billion).

And Europe officially has its own satellite broadband constellation under contract
