My house is 1344 square feet and every single one of them is usable space. We rented out our house for a bit to our kids and lived in an 1800 sq ft townhouse, but 500 sq ft of it was stairs. This is why I now want to help promote single stair buildings... stairs are a waste of space.

I didn't know that it's still possible to visit. I am not surprised a lot changed from the late 1970s to today.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

In-Store Book Clubs {pages} is pleased to host a variety of in-store book clubs

My husband loved the CIA Book Club so much after he read a free electronic review copy. It's this month's selection for the book club he leads. He got a copy from the library. Then he went to {pages} and bought another copy. Dec 3, 2025, 7pm. In person in MB

Yes. I read a an essay about this by a political scientist 15 years ago and itโ€™s lived rent free in my brain ever since.

In a nutshell, he said, the more unstable and out of control the world seems, the more people are willing to cede power to authoritarian leaders.

I don't follow Toronto weather. But check your local radiosonde profiles. Is there an unusually low temperature inversion keeping the pollution close to the ground? Was there a fire blowing smoke towards Toronto?

It is mind boggling to me that anyone would think it makes sense to dig up and burn fossil fuels only to try to regather and and rebury the carbon dioxide molecules once they've flitted throughout the atmosphere. Fossil fuel companies are obviously lying about DAC, but a lot of people believe it. ๐Ÿ”Œ๐Ÿ’ก

This is a good paper that @jensvb.bsky.social and @lausterna.bsky.social did all the work on, and Iโ€™m pleased to have a teeny weeny bit of stolen glory in saying itโ€™s in a forthcoming journal issue I edited. The approach they use could be straightforwardly replicated in other countries.

Wow. No wonder it is more expensive at the grocery store (but cheaper than buying regular milk + lactase tablets).
We are a soymilk and 2% lactose-free cow milk family

If you're wondering why a large chunk of ostensibly left-of-center pundits are waging war on environmental protections in the form of an "abundance agenda," it's because Silicon Valley has quietly developed a culture of rampant pollution.

TIL that lactose free milk is made with reverse osmosis. My husband and I had assumed it was done with enzymes (lactase).
How do they separate out the lactase? Is it a 2-step/membrane process to isolate molecules of exactly 1 size?

Not that he cares about facts, but 92% of Medicaid recipients are working or fall within an exempt category, and thanks to the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (๐Ÿคฎ), immigrants generally have to wait 5 years to enroll in Medicaid.

I caught Mitch McConnell earlier today and tried to ask him about the CDC promoting the lie that vaccines cause autism.

He voted against RFK Jr.'s confirmation.

But as is always the case, McConnell, a polio survivor, refused to answer questions.

And that I did some hydrogen bonds modeling in grad school.

Anyway, the guy had good advice.
And I did meet my friend group there.

3a) You will meet your college friend group in honors chem
3b) You will have to do independent research in Cal honors chem so we're going to start now
3c) While the rest of the class practices for the AP test, you can read anything in my chemistry library & write a synopsis of what you learned 2/

My AP Chem professor helped me decide between Cal & Stanford (he attended Stanford UG, Cal grad).
1) Don't take out student loans to go to Stanford
2) Cal has a more rigorous chem program
3) Don't take the AP Chem test, take the accelerated Honors Chem sequence at Cal
