I almost forgot, this one is drinking from our Swamp Milkweed in the garden.

Here's a very large one for today, a Spicebush Swallowtail. While we only see 1-2 at a time in passing, the size of their wings announces them pretty well, allowing for a fun sight when they're around.

Coming back to the faster kinds of butterfly, here's a Whirlabout resting on a thistle leaf. This was on a nature reserve, one with little shade on the main trails.

Here's a more ornate discovery, a White Peacock butterfly. These made their way around the area, their bright wings making them stand out amongst every flower patch they were enjoying.

Here's another one, similar to yesterday's: a Pearl Crescent. These ones sport more round spots on their wings and usually only one shade of orange, a good way of telling the difference between these and the Phaons.

Here's one we see pretty much everywhere here, a Phaon Crescent. They're a smaller kind, keeping low to the grass as they flutter around, and having 2-3 shades of orange with their patterns.

Here's a rare sight, a Monarch freshly-emerged from its chrysalis, drying its wings and getting ready to fly away.
This was taken when we were shopping for flowers at an outdoor garden, it's on the back of one of the signs.

Oh, I love moths, including this, with the peculiar name The figure of eight, Diloba caeruleocephala! But have you seen it and its' pattern on the wings, you understand why. It flies now.

Now for this beauty, a Palamedes Swallowtail on a milkweed.
At the time we made the mistake of getting Tropical Milkweed, but got rid of it before the colder seasons. We've since replaced it with the more native Swamp and Butterfly Milkweed.

Sunny autumn morning in the marsh.
Amazed to see my first ever Dusky-lemon Sallow on a very cold evening in south Devon this week. A rare species in Devon with only a handful of records this century. #teammoth

Here's a bright one for you, a Cloudless Sulfur butterfly. I'm not sure what kind of flower it's drinking out of, been a while since I took this photo.

Here's one I took some time ago, an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail going from-flower-to-flower on an Azalea, didn't even seem to care that I was there it was so busy drinking.

I return to share this beauty I found today, a Gulf Fritillary butterfly drinking from our Pentas flowers, which are a favorite with the visiting butterflies.
Posted this originally on my iNaturalist, I try to share the great pictures here.
