It's quite true that it is a whole lot easier to maintain. If one breaks down, pop it out and put a new one in.
One big issue with most interlocking bricks is that they are quite susceptible to damage from salt, so other means would be needed for colder climates to keep ice down.

A well oiled crew of just a few people can lay a whole lot of brick really fast and accurately.
