You really can get close to the music at Little Missenden Festival. The Gould Piano Trio's cellist, Richard Lester suggested someone in the front row might be able to scratch his nose during their lively performance of Haydn, Rebecca Clarke and Schubert last night!

The opening concert of this year's festival (Oct 3rd) will be "The Madrigal Reimagined" performed by the Monteverdi String Band with Hannah Ely (soprano) and Toby Carr (lute). Bookings open in August.

Robert Schumann was born on this day in 1810. Here's a rather lovely Daguerrotype of him with Clara. His Kinderszenen form part of a concert on 5th October at Little Missenden by the Piatti Quartet @piattiquartet.bsky.social and pianist Huw Watkins.

This year's art lecture (Oct 4th) features the current Siena exhibition at the National Gallery which closes on June 22nd. Highly recommended!
