Yup. If the President can unilaterally stop Congressional appropriations, then we're past any 'guardrails.' Congress is now an advisory body; it does not control the power of the purse.

There is an instinctual (and important) desire to preserve institutions as fascists tear them down.

But in the process of protecting those institutions, we also need to acknowledge that it was their failures that led us here.

That second step is what many missed 2016 to 2020. That needs to change.

So the discourse is finally making it over here. Rural voters are not uniquely good or evil. They're humans like everyone else.

And as such if your analysis of rural voting dynamics does not include sufficient attention to class structures you're just riffing off your prejudices.

I keep saying that even if we got every queer and trans person out of all the red states today, more will be born tomorrow. They can't all leave. Some have to stay and fight. It's not fair that they have to, but they're 1000% more punk than I'll ever be in Michigan.

Environmental risks of car tire microplastic particles and other road runoff pollutants - Microplastics and Nanoplastics Tire wear represents a large source of microplastic entering the aquatic environment, however little is known about its environmental risks. Here, we provide the first assessment of the environmental ...

TIL learned a fun fact

the vast, vast majority of microplastics aren't actually from breaking down single-use plastics like I thought, but from car tires. Car tires, simply by being worn down while driving, emit more microplastics than anything by far

Today is an excellent day to remind all of you Americans that the Brazilian electoral court banned Bolsonaro from running in the next election within six months from his attempted insurrection. By now, 14 months later, he’s had his passport confiscated so he won’t escape from punishment.

People like to talk about being radicalized politically but honestly not wanting people to die of poverty and be able to get insulin and not bombing innocent children seems like pretty normal boring morality, all those other fucking weirdos are the radical ones

Opinion: I'm an American doctor who went to Gaza. What I saw wasn't war β€” it was annihilation As a surgeon, I volunteered at a Gaza hospital. The conditions were unthinkable. With a ground offensive in Rafah, people have nowhere to go.

"On one occasion, a handful of children, all about ages 5 to 8, were carried to the emergency room by their parents. All had single sniper shots to the head."
