Massive car interchange from the air

Massive car interchange from the air

Just imagine investing this much money, time, energy, political will & space into smart walking, biking & transit infrastructure. There are maybe thousands of these. They not only induce a lot more driving, they make our cities think they can’t afford transport solutions that would ACTUALLY work.

How do you argue with a conspiracy theorist? You don’t. This video essay really helps to unpack some things I have wondered and some things I didn’t even know about. Highly recommend taking the time to watch.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

β€œIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Graphic showing what your mobility choice costs all of society

Graphic showing what your mobility choice costs all of society

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study.

This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice.

One way to boycott America here in Victoria: delete the Uber app from your phone and use the Yellow Cab or Bluebird Cab apps. I’ve used Yellow Cab a bunch and it’s basically as convenient and cheaper than Uber AND more of your money is staying closer to home.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says β€” Streetsblog USA Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikesΒ and people in cars and on foot, a new studyΒ of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them.
