3/ "If we only reduce the working hours, without a more structural change in how life and society are organized, this reduction in working hours will affect women and men differently,” says Mireia Utzet, co-first author of the study. cc @hospitaldelmar.bsky.social
2/ The analysis of 16 experiences across Europe reveals that there is a huge improvement in work-life balance & mental health (82%) but widen gender gap in task distribution.
♀️♂️ Women dedicate more time to caregiving and domestic tasks, while men use the extra time for personal activities.

Delighted to collaborate with @melisupf.bsky.social on this exciting study. Juana Diez and her team reveal that coronaviruses reprogram the cellular tRNA pool to optimise viral gene expression 🤯🍾🥂🥳🥳
6/ This study is a collaborative effort with Arvind H. Patel & @alf-castello.bsky.social - @cvrinfo.bsky.social; Rafael Sanjuán - @i2sysbio.es & Miguel Chillón - @uab.cat
👇 Check the original article published in @natcomms.nature.com www.nature.com/articles/s41...
5/ “The tRNA-modifying enzyme is a promising candidate for developing broad-spectrum antiviral drugs capable of curbing the spread of coronaviruses”, Juana Díez states. “This drug would allow us to contain the infections caused by new coronaviruses and prevent their rapid expansion”.
4/ The modification of tRNAs has been observed both in SARS-CoV-2, associated with serious infections, and in HCoV-OC43, which usually causes very mild cold-like signs and symptoms. Therefore, it could be a common strategy among different #coronaviruses.
3/ “Coronaviruses need tRNAs that are in low concentrations in cells. For this reason, we asked ourselves how a virus can spread so quickly within a cell where the tRNAs it needs to make its viral proteins are not abundant”, outlines Elena Muscolino, first author of the study.
2/ The study published in @natcomms.nature.com shows that infection causes stress that chemically alters tRNAs and changes the functioning of the cellular machinery. Thus, the cell is no longer optimized to produce its own proteins and acquires the ideal conditions to respond to stress.
1/ 🎯 A therapeutic target that would curb the spread of #coronaviruses has been identified
It is an enzyme that is activated in human cells in response to stress due to infection and causes changes in the cellular machinery that favour the production and spread of coronaviruses
