Massive Bookshop is great and you should think about checking them out, for all your revlit needs.
While we had to make some changes to avoid racking up debt, we are still here and selling books at a sustainable rate. More importantly, we're still having fun; and we're bailing people out of jail.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this project in 2025 and beyond!
📚📚📚📚 4/4
We also issued $17,265.38 in discounts to customers ordering books for their incarcerated pen pals. To learn more about that service and to take advantage of it, you can check out our B2P PAGE here: massivebookshop.com/pages/b2p 3/
We donated $12,115 to bail funds, prisoner support groups, and other friends including Decarcerate Western Mass, Sameer Project, @oaklandabosol.bsky.social, house of gg, and Belly Zine. A sortable table of all donations we've made since we started is here: massivebookshop.com/pages/our-fr... 2/
OUR YEAR-END REPORT: In 2025, we received 376 tips (thank you!) totaling $2,555.37, and we made a net profit of $3,752.80 on revenue of $99,650.57.
This was actually our first year of making a profit. We donated way more than we made in profit, though, which is the point. 1/
Are we worried about losing money? No. Like every other bookseller, we should do better in the fourth quarter as the holiday season picks up. We are always improving and our profit margin will improve, too.
Thank you for your continued interest and support.
Truly,
On the year we've generated $1,872.84 in profit on revenue of $74,610.33. That's a 2.5% profit margin, which isn't great, but it is about what the average "brick and mortar" bookstore generates.
We've donated 12% of that revenue, tho, so we're at (-$7,127.60) for the year. 🫤
This year we've also issued $16,883.15 in discounts to customers buying books for their incarcerated pen pals. All orders for incarcerated readers qualify for a 50% discount.
You can read about how best to take advantage of that service here 👉 massivebookshop.com/pages/b2p
Since 2020, we've donated $52,817.50 to bail funds, jail support and other rad orgs, and sent 9786 books to prison book programs.
You can see the full list of projects we've supported on OUR FRIENDS page here 👉 massivebookshop.com/pages/our-fr...
In the third quarter of 2025 we received 55 tips totaling $273.56 (thanks!) and we matched that total to donate $547.12 to our comrades at Decarcerate Western Mass. So far this year we've donated $9,000.44 to prisoners, bail funds, jail support, and The Sameer Project in Gaza, among others.
#OpEd: "We can’t bury the deeper, driving forces behind why this is happening. This phenomenon is only possible because of the outsized power that state agents — ICE, police officers, prison staff — have always had to abuse and control women and victims' bodies." Read the full story here. ⬇️

“[In] the cell block, the city block, and the classroom, abolition is both a philosophy and a strategy. As a way of thinking, abolition is an uncompromising refusal of the violent order of things. […] All of us or none, the abolitionist insists; this way toward freedom.”

Looks like “indie” presses are mad that B&N is turning off the steady drip of corporate waste that they’ve come to rely on to expand their lists. If you’re “indie,” why tie your fate to that of a corporate chain in the first place? 🤔

I love seeing folks share Bookshop as the link to buy their books, but may I humbly suggest that if you want to order books online you consider @massivebookshop.bsky.social ? The wonderful bookstore that bails people out of jail (& sends free books to folks in prison!)

In 4+ years of doing this, we’ve donated over $41k to bail funds and prisoner support groups.
That’s thousands of people who didn’t have to sleep in a cage, and many more getting community support, because some punks had fun selling books.
!!!!!! you can pre-order No Cop City, No Cop World through @workshops4gaza.bsky.social's site and help fund the critical
Sameer Project!

🚨Good deal + good deed opportunity from the bookstore that bails people out of jail
Yes! And we’re doing something for “indie bookstore day” too. All orders for our friendly local books-to-prisoners group are being matched by a generous donor up to $1k! massivebookshop.com/collections/...
Corrections work isn't among the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the US. But still, the median annual salary is higher than jobs that are much more deadly 🤔
This looks like a country that invests in mass incarceration WAY too much

"Prisons all over the United States are withholding books from prisoners, but not because they contain contraband. Books are becoming harder to receive based on their content."
