While we had to make some changes to avoid racking up debt, we are still here and selling books at a sustainable rate. More importantly, we're still having fun; and we're bailing people out of jail.

Thanks to everyone who has supported this project in 2025 and beyond!

OUR YEAR-END REPORT: In 2025, we received 376 tips (thank you!) totaling $2,555.37, and we made a net profit of $3,752.80 on revenue of $99,650.57.

This was actually our first year of making a profit. We donated way more than we made in profit, though, which is the point. 1/

Are we worried about losing money? No. Like every other bookseller, we should do better in the fourth quarter as the holiday season picks up. We are always improving and our profit margin will improve, too.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.

Truly,

On the year we've generated $1,872.84 in profit on revenue of $74,610.33. That's a 2.5% profit margin, which isn't great, but it is about what the average "brick and mortar" bookstore generates.

We've donated 12% of that revenue, tho, so we're at (-$7,127.60) for the year. 🫤

How ICE Raids Are Making It Easier for Civilian Men to Assault Immigrant Women "This phenomenon is only possible because of the outsized power that state agents have always had to abuse and control women and victims' bodies," argues Kylie Cheung.

#OpEd: "We can’t bury the deeper, driving forces behind why this is happening. This phenomenon is only possible because of the outsized power that state agents — ICE, police officers, prison staff — have always had to abuse and control women and victims' bodies." Read the full story here. ⬇️

“[In] the cell block, the city block, and the classroom, abolition is both a philosophy and a strategy. As a way of thinking, abolition is an uncompromising refusal of the violent order of things. […] All of us or none, the abolitionist insists; this way toward freedom.”

Looks like “indie” presses are mad that B&N is turning off the steady drip of corporate waste that they’ve come to rely on to expand their lists. If you’re “indie,” why tie your fate to that of a corporate chain in the first place? 🤔

A still from the movie Weekend at Bernie’s showing Bernie, who is dead, smoking a cigarette and holding a cocktail glass while an offscreen character uses a wire and pully to raise Bernie’s hand in a simulation of waving.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Our Massive Bookshop is taking its first ever vacation. We are not (yet) dead. We are having fun.

“Normal” book selling activities will resume on or around June 9th.

Thanks!

I love seeing folks share Bookshop as the link to buy their books, but may I humbly suggest that if you want to order books online you consider @massivebookshop.bsky.social ? The wonderful bookstore that bails people out of jail (& sends free books to folks in prison!)

In 4+ years of doing this, we’ve donated over $41k to bail funds and prisoner support groups.

That’s thousands of people who didn’t have to sleep in a cage, and many more getting community support, because some punks had fun selling books.

Graph titled: Corrections workers make more money than people working much deadlier jobs

Corrections work isn't among the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the US. But still, the median annual salary is higher than jobs that are much more deadly 🤔

This looks like a country that invests in mass incarceration WAY too much

By My Prison’s Standards, the Bible Would Be a Banned Book Today, more than 50,000 books are banned in prison. At Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, the book ban is getting to be ridiculous.

"Prisons all over the United States are withholding books from prisoners, but not because they contain contraband. Books are becoming harder to receive based on their content."
