Posts about astrophotography, space stuff, hacker stuff, and cynical leftist political hot takes. I swear like a sailor. My opinions are my own and probably wrong. I'm not here to be correct or "defend my position". I will block you. π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ

A field of stars with a rust-colored moon in the center of the frame
Here's my second attempt at processing the #lunar #eclipse from a few days ago.
I stacked the stars and made a composite image. I'm not sure whether I'm completely satisfied with it, so I might redo it again later.

There WILL be tornadoes today and they WILL be violent and destructive. These are the kind of tornadoes that strip entire neighborhoods and small towns down to nothing but their foundations. It's not a joke.
15.03.2025 15:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Key Messages for Saturday Mar 15 Severe Weather An outbreak of intense tornadoes is expected today into tonight across the Deep South Updated Mar 15, 2025, 1:37 AM CDT Overview: A dangerous outbreak of potentially violent, long-track tornadoes is expected today into tonight across the Deep South and Tennessee Valley. Primary Risks: Numerous supercells will form today and move from Louisiana across Mississippi, Alabama and southern Tennessee, reaching western Georgia and the Florida Panhandle tonight. Multiple, destructive EF3-EF4+ tornadoes are likely. Safety Actions: Storms will move very rapidly and pose a serious threat to life and property. It is important to take action when warnings are issued and not wait to see or hear the signs of a severe storm. For more information go to www.spc.noaa.gov and www.weather.gov Storm Prediction Center Norman, OK
If you or anyone you know is in Mississippi, Alabama, or Louisiana today I suggest you get in touch and verify they are aware of the dangerous weather today and are prepared.
This is not something to be trifled with. This is a legitimately extremely dangerous situation.

One more--this is just so cool:
Firefly Aerospace has released the full image sequence of a solar eclipse from the surface of the Moon. The dark object moving in front of the Sun is Earth. The lunar landscape is lit red by all the sunrises & sunsets in the world. π§ͺ

The tl;dr is that colors arenβt a real physical thing.

Is it really "blue" if it started as ultraviolet?
This is a 4-shot composite image of this morningβs lunar eclipse with 3 longer exposures to capture the eclipsed half and the glow behind the moon along with a shorter exposure to capture details in the uneclipsed half. The stars were added in from an image taken during totality.

Do you see her, Lady Liberty (NGC 3576)? With an outstretched arm she is holding the torch, and if you look closely, with a little imagination, you might think she is wearing a crown (but thatβs just gas and dust being zapped by high-energy light from massive stars)
