Filming ICE as well as criticizing them is your First Amendment right. Use it.

I go to several cons a year, fursuit every night, and go in the parade (if it has one).

Past a certain size, record keeping is essential for a variety of reasons.

I've been staffing cons since 2000 and I've seen cons go from "a few dozen staff and no HR" to "500+ staff and an urgent need for HR".

That doesn't excuse that HR person's behavior, though. It was awful.

Even if you are terminating a staffer, that language and tone were completely unacceptable.

Con staff and volunteers are random people who are donating their time. You could have done a much better job with that email, instead of writing something cold and impersonal.

Have some empathy.

I had a similar experience with a con once—I applied for a role, it took them 6 MONTHS to follow up, only to get a similar unsigned email saying “that role isn’t open, try again”.

Cold, heartless, and impersonal.

I haven’t been back to that con since.

So sorry this happened to you, OP.

Have a little empathy and try to keep in mind that there’s a human behind the keyboard reading your words.
