Me: let's conduct one more experiment before turning in my capstone
Also me: discovers that flora/fauna exist on a continuous emotional manifold in myth, and don't cluster by species. Each dot is a creature mention ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿถ๐ŸŒท . (I didn't even know what a manifold was this morning)

Half the park is after dark! And I recognized it from the trees :D. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did hahah, we accidentally timed it during a full moon, so I am hoping to go back someday with more stars and less light.

One of my best memories at glacier was going to Logan pass at midnight on one of my friend's last days as a guide. We saw a coyote, mountain goats, and the moon was so bright we didn't need flashlights.

DolphinGemma: How Google AI is helping decode dolphin communication Dolphin researchers are using Gemma and Google Pixel phones to try to decipher how dolphins talk to one another.

GemmaDolphin: an LLM for dolphins

the weirdest cool thing

they fine-tuned Gemma. No text, instead theyโ€™re pairing audio & video โ€” sounds to dolphin movements

theyโ€™ve been able to identify key structures, like dolphin names and โ€œbattle criesโ€

A hamster / mister saddlebags with EXTREMELY chubby cheeks

A hamster / mister saddlebags with EXTREMELY chubby cheeks

The Syrian Arabic word for a hamster is ุฃุจูˆ ุฌุฑุงุจ (abu jrab), where jrab refers to a pouch/saddlebag/tote. And abu often means โ€œfather of,โ€ but can also function as a general honorific (like โ€œmisterโ€). So itโ€™s not too big a stretch to say the Syrian Arabic word for a hamster means โ€œMister Saddlebagsโ€

Takeaways from #bostondh25: map archives are super cool, wikipedia editing culture is *intense*, and I wish I'd gotten more people's contact information cause so many projects sounded amazing
