Well the ASA is approximately 30% women so I would imagine that a significantly smaller percentage of male astronomers in Australia are called Michael lol

For those unfamiliar with ARC funding - a discovery project is a relatively small Aus government grant that usually allows a researcher to hire a postdoc or a couple of PhD students.

Was shocked (but unsurprised) to learn that of the 30 top ARC Discovery Project winning astronomers in Australia only 1 is a woman. But there are 6 Michaels..

I am visiting the US for a program themed on empowering women in STEM. We have met with incredible people around the country championing equity & inclusion.
It is heartbreaking to see how deeply sad & scared they are in the wake of last week's election. How is it such division and hatred wins?

The school will be on tidal disruption events and will have wonderful facilitators such as @danastro.bsky.social , @astrodel.bsky.social , @kaamau.bsky.social, and I hope to be tolerable too.😅

I had to sign up for roadside assistance recently and today when I got my membership card in the mail I was initially mad they assumed my title was Miss (companies ALWAYS do this).

Today for the first time in a long time I took annual leave for my Birthday and spent the day with my favourite people (including my twin) hiking amongst the wildflowers. The wildflowers here in WA are incredible! 🌸🌼🌿

My sisters automated cat feeder malfunctioned while she was away for a week and her cat Maggie, who has zero self control, was given unlimited access to food

I was visiting my sister the other weekend who rents a small house with a friend deep in Melbourne suburbia. Over the course of 4 hours on a Saturday I watched not one but BOTH of her neighbours mow her front lawn at different times 😂

Friendly neighbours are the best ❤️

When I first started my PhD I was blown away by my supervisors ability to pick a radio source from coordinates alone

Today I'm glad to report, I was able to be that person for a PhD student and correctly guess their source from coordinates alone.

I'm both proud and a little concerned😅
