Thank you, Max. 😊
I'm so confused why that account kept insisting you didn't get it? We're not ancient. We can pick it up. That's part of our job. 😅
And in Kat's specific case: it's honestly making me think of Jess Phoenix. The ground game matters, and there's a lot of concerns from in-district folks.
War on the Rocks released this on February 26th, and it's worth a read:
“But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the Strait of Hormuz is open and people are having a wonderful time.”
Oh, 100%.
ICYMI: I’m writing the last Rick and Morty comic book for the foreseeable future. You don’t have to have read other Rick and Morty comics to follow it. Honestly you don’t even have to have seen Rick and Morty. You just need to be passingly familiar with the concepts of relationships and time.
I'm younger than Dana but also older than Kat AND I work in comms...
And yeah, this isn't it. She's basically repeating Jess Phoenix's blueprint.
IYKYK:
omg. Exactly this.
You know things are going well in the state of the world when I'm rewatching The Three Body Problem to relax.
I'm ashamed to admit when I still believed in her, I pitched an entire picture book based on the white board concept to her team. 💀
(My then-agent really wanted to sign her as a client)
I've seen that MS Now story being reposted on my TL a lot, and please check out Dana's thread.
Who could have possibly foreseen that a war on Iran would reignite hostilities in Iraq as well?
Almost as hard to predict as some *wee* difficulties in the Strait of Hormuz.
Newsom immediately pledged legal action to block him: "He's using this crisis of his own making [Iran war] to attempt what he’s wanted to do for years: open CA's coast for his oil industry friends so they can poison our beaches.” One (legal) battle after another. 3/3 www.latimes.com/california/s...
As of tonight, @justsecurity.org has tracked 698 legal challenges to Trump administration actions. We'll be at 700 in a day or two. That's about 2.5 for every work day since Trump took office (1/20/25 through 3/14/26, minus weekends and federal holidays). 1/3 www.justsecurity.org/107087/track...
💀
I'm not offended - you're entitled to your opinion.
I think I'd just ask that you consider why publishers are pivoting toward what drives people to buy, and the upheaval of the industry right now.
Sure, but it's all inteconnected. The reason that mass market paperbacks died, is because of declining book sales and the pivot to ebooks.
So if anything, one can make the argument that publishers are trying to keep people interested in paper books w/ fancier versions.
I'm not sure what you mean by easier to carry around/more readable?
Yeah, I think people who need to pay for gas will have something to worry about, Hegseth.
Look, if you have a Republican rep: now is the perfect time to call them. Quote your gas prices at them, and then quote Hegseth at them, and ask them what their response is?
Yep! Every new category blockbuster brings in new readers/can start a new trend (e.g. GONE GIRL). That post also completly ignores the fact that backlist literally keeps publishing running. Numerous new authors are getting sprayed edges and fancy first editions, but y'know, they're girl books so...
I was hoping you'd chime in!!
FSOG brought in THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of new readers. The Beyond series in particular got a pretty big boost from this, which meant I had so many readers coming into our group who had 15 favorite indie authors of erotic romance but were asking, "Who is Nora Roberts?"
Brand new readers.
It's kind of a lateral example, but people made fun of 50 Shades of Gray for not being serious literature, right?
I'll defer to PRH/romance readers who know better, but IIRC - it helped the industry enough that people were getting bonuses/brought revitalized interest.
That ultimately impacts people buying books, bookstore visits, # purchased etc.
If a special edition of say, The Hunger Games, gets a reader interested enough to visit a the store, where they might pick up new books they find while walking through?
That's a win for everyone.
I don't think this is the right take, respectfully.
Is it annoying seeing certain bestsellers get the sprayed edges attention when they're already a best seller? Sure.
But publishing is in a weird space right now, especially w/ book bans and the dipping numbers of readers and literacy challenge.
Washington has high gas prices but the first gas station I hit on my way home last night had gas for $5.49/gallon. I drive a hybrid but al ready to switch to my husband’s EV when I can.
