Closeup of 2/2 twill
So, it's finished! 2/2 twill, 5 sections of Fibonacci stripes in warp (1,1,2,3,5), 8/2 unmercerized cotton doubled in warp, 8/4 single thread in weft, rigid heddle loom, two 12.5 dpi heddles plus pickup stick and heddle rod. Machine washed 60 degrees celsius. Hemmed by hand.

But, over the long haul, a designerβs job is to discover whatβs needed, align colleagues and stakeholders, and make it work. (2/2)

Voven alpaca scarf with black and pink puppytooth pattern, and hand twisted fringes
Ah, I have that book, must have a look! My first weave was a scarf with a sticky alpaca yarn. Was a nightmare to weave. Thank you so much for the advice about the folded edge, must study that in particular π I'll weave a small practice piece, as it will be my first time with double width weaving.

Why are work systems for employees in public services so bad, e.g. in health- or other welfare services?
This has a detrimental effect on people who depend on public services, and who may already be vulnerable.
We need to do better.

01.12.2024 14:30 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0It is cool! For me, making work systems for expert users, a nice feature of the components are that most of them have compact variants. Our users want information density, and hate scrolling. Compact variants allow us to accommodate that, without compromising key accessibility requirements.

aksel.nav.no is the open source #designsystem developed by the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration.
There is a lot of effort put into making Aksel's 40+ components accessible, and flexible. And there are >910 open-source icons.
Yes, everything is in Norwegian. But it is #opensource!
Not tried it yet, but it's on the list!

Stack of paper note to keep track of a 14 step weaving sequence.
I made 14 little paper notes with the sequence, put them in a stack and turned one note over when I put the shuttle through. Think I avoided many mistakes, but had to redo a few times even so. Challenging! I got this idea from a post in a weaving group.

Beautiful! Hard weave for me, the black yarn turned out to be a bit rotten, and earp threads kept breaking. The same type of yarn as the rest of the colours, but I didn't warp test all the colours, so that's a really good learning point. The back of the loom looked like wind chimes after a while.

Comparatively easy to be creative with few boundaries and a new system (no box).
Continuous improvement requires true creativity to innovate "within the box". Lots of boundaries.
