Absolutely. I do the same with college students. AI in its current form is being used to avoid learning, not augment it.

The studies showing that college students who use AI to write essays forget the content of those essays shockingly quickly demonstrate how learning that you don't work for doesn't stick. I imagine similar outcomes are likely here.

Absolutely this. I have follow up meetings with students whose papers raise AI red flags and the vast, vast majority of them cannot explain claims from the essay they "wrote" or correctly answer basic questions about the texts cited. They are using AI to avoid learning, not using AI to aid learning.
