It takes the melodrama, lyricism, and instrumental palette of the previous album and gives everything a lot more polish. So rich with layers of orchestral grandiosity and brooding storms of droning wails, it’s like staring into the eyes of a terrifying, otherworldly presence. Hausswolff is the angelic voice that guides us through the madness, a ray of heavenly light that elevates the album into something unforgettable Favorite Tracks: Facing Atlas, The Iconoclast, Struggle With The Beast

3: Pale North - New Nostalgia A dreamy, emotional rallying cry for the lonely Vancouverite. A noise-drenched, dreamy record that manages to make this city’s melancholic, rainy days a little brighter. You barely feel the album’s short length when each track is so dense with incredible lyrics and sonic highlights. Perhaps the most underrated record on this list, so please don’t sleep on it! 4: Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer A record that’s both forward-thinking in its blending of hyperpop and modern EDM trends, while also painting a nostalgic portrait of a previous era of the internet that I deeply relate to. It’s stuffed with sugary-sweet pop hits and glitchy, dancefloor bangers. 5: Tyler, The Creator - Don’t Tap The Glass What it lacks in emotional complexity it more than makes up for with some of Tyler’s best pop cuts. At only 28 minutes, it only puts forth its best ideas and keeps the party going the whole way through. 6: Betcover!! - Yuki Betcover!! Has been on my radar for years, but it’s taken until this record for them to finally win me over. I’m particularly drawn in by the album’s bold jazz rock statements and Jiro Yanase’s distinct vocals. His intimate delivery cuts through the language barrier, and he communicates so much emotion through his masterful command over the album’s seven tracks. I would even go so far as to say it’s my biggest comfort listen of 2025 Favorite Tracks: ゴーゴースチーム , 野猿 , 銀河ゴールデンボーイ

7: Todos Mis Amigos Están Tristes - Carne This one snuck up on me late in the year and impressed me with its incredible songwriting and genre fusions. A shoegaze record that owes a lot to Smashing Pumpkins, but also throws in the punchy power chords of pop punk. Chile has had an explosion of incredible rock music in 2025, but Carne is easily my favorite Favorite Tracks: Llévame donde sea, Morderé mis labios hasta sangrar de la rabia

8: Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You Ethel Cain ambraces her Slowcore and Post-Rock roots, moving away from the sounds that made her a pop icon. The result is a harrowing gut-punch of a record, a bleak tale of heartbreak and decaying Americana. It offers just enough clarity to weave a compelling narrative, but its darkest tales are wordless. Cain’s greatest strength is how she’s able to immerse the listener in some haunting, yet beautiful soundscapes Favorite Tracks: Nettles, Dust Bowl, Radio Towers

9: Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper A deeply complex, narratively rich album that sounds wholly its own. Quadeca takes a handful of contemporary hip-hop trends and collides them with a typhoon of psychedelic soundscapes and adventurous instrumental choices. Every time I listen to it I found myself getting swallowed deeper into its aquatic labyrinth Favorite Tracks: RUIN MY LIFE, GODSTAINED, CASPER

10: Mac Miller - Balloonerism It lands lowest on this list because it’s technically an unreleased project from the mid 2010’s, but this posthumous statement from Mac Miller features some of the most emotionally potent tracks he would ever make. It sounds very mid-2010’s, but I actually find this comfy and a little nostalgic.
