I am so genuinely proud of our list of independent film nominees for this year's Spirit Awards; I wish people could know the integrity and passion that our nominating committees approach these selections with, but that anonymity is part of why it's so special. www.vulture.com/article/inde...
Last night was pure magic. Talking to Disney animation legends Ron Clements and John Musker about the making of THE LITTLE MERMAID was a delight. These artists made several movies that mean so much to me. Thank you to @egyptianla.bsky.social and @lafilmcritics.bsky.social for making it happen!
Another great screening coming your way LA: NORMA RAE, with THE Sally Field herself, in conversation with @claudiapuig.bsky.social! This is movie is NOT streaming, so come on out and take in a gorgeous 4K DCP at the @egyptianla.bsky.social on Wed, August 13th. www.egyptiantheatre.com/film/lafca-n...

Shirley Clarke's great Portrait of Jason, at the Paris Theatre at 3:15pm: it's one of the few movies where seeing it in the theatre matters, because it puts the images—more recessive at home—in balance with the voice; word x2:

The Stonewall Riots happened because trans people, particularly of color, rose up against state violence. You can’t even begin to tell the story without our trans ancestors and elders. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/n...
Hung out backstage with some true legends tonight.
We pulled off the first Q&A screening of BARB AND STAR tonight at the Egyptian. Best communal theater experience in ages, we cackled, we cheered, we got on our feet for Annie Mumolo…

The Doom Generation. Q&A with Gregg Araki and James Duval, moderated by @kjrelthmiller.bsky.social
Part of Araki's Teen Apocalypse trilogy--3 films with angsty sexually fluid teens, winking French New Wave references, end times hallucinations, killer soundtracks, and dreamy lead man James Duval.
There are precious few seats left. If you’ve been on the fence about joining us, it’s time to hop off and honor Trish…
If you're a fan of off-kilter movie musicals featuring Catherine Deneuve, have I got the one-two punch for you at the Egyptian this week... www.egyptiantheatre.com/series/skipp...
We’re giving BARB AND STAR the royal treatment at the Egyptian! I expect to see lots of official couples there.

As someone who lives for a transcendent combo of imagery and music in cinema, David Lynch was my North Star. RIP to an unmatchable genius.
Very excited.
I’ve been in line to get in for two minutes and already bumped into two homosexuals from Los Angeles. Is this the Christmas magic?
Your fave Christmas movie has an angel coming to Earth to show a guy how bad the world would be without him; my fave has angel Cary Grant coming to Earth to make a cuckold out of a clergyman. We are not the same.
Can I just tell you I love my job?
“Carol White is a character who makes the act of living seem utterly unnatural—which it is.” - Todd Haynes on SAFE (1995) at The Egyptian theater.
Partnered up with LAFCA at the Egyptian to present our first screening in a monthly series — not a bad start!
Todd Haynes joins us on Monday, who’s coming??
These are so good, I can hardly stand it.
Really feels like the last awards show that still highlights truly independent work regardless of buzz, budget or star power.
BIG BOYS and Isaac Krasner’s charming turn in it getting this level of love makes me wanna go twirl and sing on a mountaintop.
I really hope my favorite character is in Part Two.
