Not so much Justice Alito, though.
The Trump administration starts off on the back foot in today's oral arguments in United States v. Hemani--about gun ownership by unlawful users of controlled substances.
A lot of obvious skepticism of the SG's position immediately apparent from all angles.
Since I'm off the beat these days, I'm grateful today for @klasfeldreports.com's and @annabower.bsky.social's excellent coverage of the vindictive prosecution hearing in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's criminal case in Tennessee.
Justice Kagan, who also joined the majority, is in attendance as well, but the C-SPAN feed, at least, did not show her or Justice Kavanaugh, the only one of President Trump's nominees who voted to uphold the tariffs.
President Trump gets to the tariffs ruling early in his State of the Union, calling it "the unfortunate ruling from the Supreme Court."
No reaction from Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Barrett, who are both in attendance and both joined the majority.
A divided SCOTUS says federal law shields the Postal Service from lawsuits when employees intentionally fail to deliver mail. Thomas writes for the 5-4 majority.

Thanks!
Thanks to @johnpelwood.bsky.social for allowing us to use his data on unsolicited briefs from the SG's office going back to the Clinton years.
He's since written his own quite informative piece about the current trend under John Sauer for @scotusblog.com: www.scotusblog.com/2026/02/no-i...
Sauer's had success with unsolicited briefs so far. The justices have taken up 3 cases he asked them to and granted a stay he supported.
Two other requests remain pending, including the most recent targeting Colorado's universal pre-k program. news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/...

Absolutely awful to see the gutting of the Washington Post. The Post's journalists are incredible, dedicated people. We are all better off for the work they do every day. And we will now be worse off for the work they won't get to do.
The justices will hear oral arguments on the Trump administration's former "metering" policy at the border on March 24.
SCOTUS will hear Ahmad Abouammo's case on March 30.
Justice Samuel Alito says he will recuse from a long-simmering environmental case out of Louisiana due to his oil company holdings.
Chevron USA v. Plaquemines Parish is set for oral arguments on Monday.
I remain as proud as ever of the work my colleagues and I did reporting on Jan. 6, and forever grateful to the many officers, members of Congress and staffers who shared their stories with us. That lasting record stands, and will stand.
