A little pack of crinoids found earlier this week under normal and uv light. #fossilfriday
Here’s some lovely fluorite found today under normal and uv light, with blades of baryte:
Couple of picks from today’s finds. Fluorite and baryte blades. More baryte/barite but some odd structures in there. Wiggly worms.
Back out today. Looks nice but doesn’t do justice to how cold and windy it was. My ears were burning when I put the heater on in the car.
Found a lovely mine entrance today. Unfortunately, no spoil I could see in the area. Nice trip out though.
Once, whilst taking a short-cut, I inadvertently climbed a very tall wire fence into a prison. I thought it was very nice that the “factory workers” got to play basketball on their break.
“Nouns I know”
Serpentine has come out well, and, surprise of the tumble, this jasper looks like it’s got small metallic-looking structures in it:
Rocks are out of the tumbler. It’s just the second time they’ve got to the final polish. First time was a write-off but I’m getting more used to it. All of them found reasonably local.
Oh just grateful for a response! Always trying to learn more!
Have you any ideas on this, sir? Found on the beach northwest England on Sunday in an area with a lot of crinoids, occasional coral. It’s concave. Unsure if it’s brachiopod shells or something else.
Back out. Spring coming.
Sadly, my homunculi have withered.
Me and the kid have been singing Bananarama’s “Lovin’ a fishy bee” all weekend.
Wait a minute! Mummy appears to be wearing a small jester or viper mask. It’s a bit sinister this.
Recreating the best of Black Sabbath album cover today:
I think it beats mine! 🤣 But… I found it and that‘s better than anything I could buy.
OK. So, it turns out that massive, increasing wealth disparity and the cannibalistic consumption of the middle class, does lead to the uber rich controlling and manipulating everything.
Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.
Get on Hen Ogledd. They’ve got an album coming out 20th Feb. Two great recent releases on the ‘Tubes.

Issue: minerals of the same name have such a large visual variety that they’re hard to identify. Also, whilst it’s great to find a decent example of something - like these fluorite cubes - more often the rocks on the beach or in some spoil heap are way more imperfect than pics online or in books.
Here’s another find from this week. Again, not a clue. Like alien chest bursting eggs:
…posting my amateur IDs that I know about. This is on the reverse of the rock; under uv there’s another pale blue glowing section.
I’ve had a few suggestions about this - pyromorphite, sheelite, calcite, fluorite with oil. Still not much closer. So I’ve been considering… #minerals #rockhounding
Paywalled so is it tin? I’m interested in what evidence there is of the Bronze Age collapse in Britain.
Serious question: is he able to experience grief? Or would it just be an “inconvenience”.
Bonus #MineralMonday (please see my last post though if you can help with mineral ID!!) Malachite and fluorite cubes found today:
#MineralMonday bat signal! Help!? Found today in Bowland, north UK. This is a mix of fluorite (fluorescing purple), quartz, baryte and galena but…! What’s this stuff fluorescing light blue? It looks translucent but rounded. I’ve zero idea!
